A display device includes a display panel configured to display an image, a phase difference function-provided polarizing plate attached to the display panel, a protection panel disposed to interpose the phase difference function-provided polarizing plate between the display panel and the protection panel, a structural element projecting from a plate surface of the protection pane that is opposite the phase difference function-provided polarizing plate, and a light transmissive fixation layer interposed between and bonding the phase difference function-provided polarizing plate and the protection panel. The structural element and the phase difference function-provided polarizing plate overlap each other by an overlap distance of 1.5 mm or less.

Display device

A liquid crystal display device including a first substrate, with a plurality of bus lines formed thereon such that they intersect with each other, and a second substrate facing the first substrate. The device also includes a plurality of pixel regions defined by the bus lines; a thin film transistor formed in each of the pixel regions; a color filter layer formed in each of the pixel regions; and a pixel electrode formed in each of the pixel regions. A liquid crystal layer is provided between the first substrate and the second substrate. The liquid crystal layer is located next to a polymeric structure formed by irradiating a mixture of liquid crystal materials and ultraviolet-curing monomers with ultraviolet light, and a black display is achieved when no voltage or a subthreshold voltage is applied.

Liquid crystal display device

A liquid crystal display device comprising a liquid crystal layer including liquid crystal molecules provided between a first substrate and a second substrate; pixels forming a display area; electrodes for applying a voltage across the liquid crystal layer within each of the pixels; a plurality of domain regulating structures for dividing orientations of the liquid crystal molecules and forming multiple domains within each of the pixels, when a predetermined voltage is applied across the liquid crystal layer within each of the pixels. The device also includes a structure which is formed in an outer area located next to the display area, but that does not overlap the display area, and is substantially the same as at least one of the plurality of domain regulating structures.

A liquid crystal display device including first and second substrates and a liquid crystal layer therebetween. The device also includes a plurality of gate bus lines, and a plurality of drain bus lines that intersect the gate bus lines, as well as a plurality of pixel regions defined by the gate and drain bus lines. Additionally, the device includes a thin film transistor and a resin color filter layer formed in each of the pixel regions. Substrate for liquid crystal display, liquid crystal display having the same and method of manufacturing the same

A liquid crystal display device including first and second substrates, a liquid crystal layer, a plurality of gate bus lines and a plurality of drain bus lines. A plurality of pixel regions are defined by the gate bus lines and the drain bus lines. Pixel electrodes are divided into at least four regions such that at least four domains of different liquid crystal orientation directions are defined within the pixel regions. The first and second regions each include a micro-cutout pattern including a plurality of cutouts extending in a slanted direction with respect to an edge of the first or second region, respectively, and the cutouts of the first region and the cutouts of the second region are generally parallel to each other both within each of the regions as well as across the first and second regions.

A liquid crystal display device including a pair of substrates sandwiching liquid crystal molecules, a plurality of gate bus lines, and a plurality of data bus lines, with each of the data bus lines extending to intersect the gate bus lines and bending in a zigzag manner. A plurality of pixels are formed in areas enclosed by the data and gate bus lines, with a plurality of pixel electrodes, each covering a substantial area of one of the pixels. The invention relates to a liquid crystal display device that is used in display portions of electronics devices and a manufacturing method thereof, and an object is to provide a high quality liquid crystal display device where light is inhibited from leaking and a manufacturing method thereof. The projected structure formed of the first through the fourth columnar spacer receiving patterns, the insulating film and the final protective film is formed on the TFT substrate. The projected structure is buried in the columnar spacer disposed on the opposite substrate. Thereby, even when the liquid crystal display panel is surface pressed, both substrates are hardly displaced.

In the liquid crystal display device and the method of manufacturing the same, the pixel electrodesand the projection patternare formed on the TFT substrateside, and surfaces of the pixel electrodesand the projection patternare covered with the vertical alignment film. Also, the opposing electrodeand the projection patternare formed on the CF substrateside, and surfaces of the opposing electrodeand the projection patternare covered with the vertical alignment film. Then, the TFT substrateand the CF substrateare arranged such that top end portions of the projection patternon the CF substrateare brought into contact with the TFT substrate. Then, the liquid crystalhaving the negative dielectric anisotropy is sealed between them. Accordingly, the step of scattering the spacers can be omitted, change in the cell thickness can be prevented, and the good display quality can be achieved.

Liquid crystal display device and method of manufacturing the same

A liquid crystal display device including a common electrode on a first substrate, a pixel electrode on a second substrate, and a liquid crystal layer between the first and second substrates. The device also include first and second alignment control structures formed, respectively, on the first and second substrates, for regulating azimuths of orientations of the liquid crystal when a voltage is applied thereto. The first and second alignment control structures each include a first line portion (extending in a first direction) and a second line portion (extending in a second direction, which is different from the first direction). The pixel electrode includes an edge extending in a direction different from both the first and second directions.

It is an object of the invention to provide a substrate for a liquid crystal display, a liquid crystal display having the same, and a method of manufacturing the same which make it possible to provide a display having high luminance and preferable display characteristics to be used in display sections of information apparatuses and the like. Each pixel is defined by gate bus lines extending in the horizontal direction and drain bus lines extending in the vertical direction. TFTs are formed in the vicinity of intersections between the bus lines, and resin overlap sections for shielding the TFTs from light are formed above the same. No black matrix is formed on a common electrode substrate which is provided in a face-to-face relationship with a TFT substrate, and the bus lines and the resin overlap sections formed on the TFT substrate function as a black matrix.
