When a user indicates a point on a display screen of a computer using a pen sensor, first the display screen is divided into a plurality of areas and the areas are displayed by mutually different colors or brightnesses. The plurality of colors or brightnesses displayed are scanned by the pen sensor and the colors or brightnesses detected by the light receiver to judge in which area the indicated point is located. Next, the judged area is further divided into a plurality of areas which are displayed by mutually different colors or brightnesses. Next, a routine similar to the above is successively repeated to narrow down the area in which the point indicated by the pen sensor is located and finally determine the position of the point, that is, the XY coordinates on the display screen.

A current monitoring circuit for monitoring a charging/discharging current of a secondary battery that achieves high-precision monitoring and that restricts an increase in the circuit scale. An amplifier amplifies a voltage of a current sense resistor generated by a charging/discharging current under a various amplification degrees. A comparator compares an output voltage of the amplifier with a reference voltage. A controller controls a reference voltage to be supplied to each unit and controls the amplification degree of the amplifier, based on a result of the comparison. An A/D converter A/D converts an output voltage of the amplifier. A numerical-value converter converts a digital value obtained by the conversion of the A/D converter into a numerical value corresponding to a charging/discharging current, under the control of the controller. When an excess current has been detected, a switch is set to a non-conductive state, to thereby disconnect the battery from the external unit.

A device includes a pulse-width-detection unit which detects pulse widths of an input signal supplied to the device, a pulse-width-information storing unit which stores the pulse widths detected by the pulse-width-detection unit, an operation unit which obtains indication information from the pulse widths stored in the pulse-width-information storing unit, and a pulse-generation unit which generates a pulse signal by delaying the input signal by a delay amount commensurate with the indication information, the pulse signal being supplied to an exterior of the device.

The overcurrent protection circuit for a dc-to-dc converter which inputs an input voltage through a power input line, converts the voltage into another voltage to output as an output voltage to a load through a power output line. The overcurrent protection circuit outputs a first connection signal for a predetermined period from the time the input voltage is turned on; detects an overcurrent caused in the load and outputs a second connection signal from the time tile input voltage is turned on until the overcurrent is detected; and closes the power input line while receiving at least one of the first and second connection signals.
