A spectroscopic 3D image display device according to the present disclosure includes: at least one first projection type image display device that uses first illumination light to display an image; at least one second projection type image display device that uses second illumination light to display an image; and a system controller that carries out control so that the first and second projection type image display devices are synchronously driven. A light source device of the first projection type image display device emits, with prescribed output power, first blue light having the central wavelength λa, and switches the intensity of the output power and emits third blue light. A light source device of the second projection type image display device emits, with prescribed output power, second blue light having the central wavelength λb. The central wavelengths λa, λb, and λc satisfy λb≤λc<λa.

Projection type image display device

A light source apparatus includes a plurality of light emitting apparatuses. Each of the light emitting apparatuses includes a plurality of light emitting devices each of which has a light emitting area and a non-light emitting area on an emission surface thereof that emits light. The display device includes a light source unit that emits light, a first display element, and a second display element. The display device further includes a light separating and synthesizing member that separates the light emitted from the light source unit into first light and second light having different wavelength regions, emits the first light toward the first display element, emits the second light toward the second display element, and synthesizes the first light that has been reflected and modulated by the first display element and the second light that has been reflected and modulated by the second display element. The display device further includes a light absorbing member that covers a part of the first display element. The light absorbing member absorbs a part of the modulated second light reflected by the second display element and directed toward the first display element.

The light source device and the projection display apparatus include a solid-state light source unit, a dichroic mirror, a fluorescent plate, a first wave plate, and a multi-reflection mirror. The solid-state light source unit emits first and second linearly polarized light rays at a predetermined ratio, the first and the second linearly polarized light rays being orthogonal to each other. The dichroic mirror separates the first and the second linearly polarized light rays, and combines blue light with yellow light. The fluorescent plate emits the yellow light to the dichroic mirror when the fluorescent plate is excited by the first linearly polarized light ray separated by the dichroic mirror. The first wave plate converts the second linearly polarized light ray separated by the dichroic mirror, into circularly polarized light. The multi-reflection mirror reflects the circularly polarized light to the dichroic mirror as the blue light.

A projection display apparatus of the present disclosure includes a solid state light source discharging blue light in a first wavelength range; a wheel having a transmission part transmitting blue light and a first light-emitting body emitting light in response to irradiation with blue light; a second light-emitting body emitting light in a second wavelength range closer to the longer wavelengths than the first wavelength range is and adjacent to the first wavelength range, in response to irradiation with blue light that has passed through the transmission part; a light uniformizing element uniformizing the blue light and the light emitted from the first and second light-emitting body; a light modulation element modulating the light uniformized by the light uniformizing element; and projection unit projecting the light modulated by the light modulation element.
