Provided is a reliable optical pick-up which can prevent deterioration of a performance of a component, shortening of a service life or malfunctioning due to heat generation of an laser driver IC, wherein a metallic pattern is provided on a flexible printed board, having an area wider than the external shape of the laser driver IC and having an exposed outer surface, and made of the same material as that of a wiring pattern. It is preferable to bend the flexible printed board in a mounting part for the laser driver IC so that the metallic pattern is faced to and superposed with a surface of the flexible printed board on the side remote from the surface on which the laser driver IC is mounted.

Cooling arrangement for an optical pick-up

An optical pickup includes an object lens; a moving part including the object lens and coils; rod-shaped support members disposed in a focusing direction, one end of each of the support members being attached to side surfaces of the moving part in a tracking direction; a fixing part for fixing the other end of each of the support members; a yoke including magnets; and gel holding parts, each of the gel holding parts including walls on both sides of the support members in the tracking direction, and the support members being disposed on both sides of the moving part in the tracking direction. Each of the gel holding parts includes an opening at one end on an optical disc side in the focusing direction and includes a cutout in the wall farther from the object lens in the tracking direction, the cutout extending from an edge of the opening.

Optical pickup

An optical pickup having a case made of a resin material reinforced with glass fiber, inorganic filler or the like with polyphenylene sulfide as a base material, and a metal plate formed of a material having a linear expansion coefficient within a range of a linear expansion coefficient of the case in a direction between bearings when a fiber orientation of the case is along the direction between the bearings or random. The metal plate has two rising members bended to the case side at both ends in the direction between the bearings. Two walls of the outer hull of an opening of the case at both ends in the direction between the bearings and the two rising members of the metal plate are alternately opposed, and the opposed walls of the case and the rising members of the metal plate are fixed using adhesives.

Optical pickup and disc drive using optical pickup

An optical pickup apparatus comprises a laser beam source to generate laser beam, and a laser driving circuit to drive the laser beam source. The laser driving circuit is connected to a flexible substrate and arranged in a groove or hole provided in the vicinity of that portion of an optical pickup housing, to which the laser beam source is fixed. The laser driving circuit is connected through a heat conduction member to an upper cover among upper and lower covers, the upper cover being close to the laser driving circuit. Thereby, heat generated from the laser driving circuit is conducted through the heat conduction member to the upper cover to be transferred outside the optical pickup apparatus while being scattered in an inplane direction of the upper cover.

Optical pickup apparatus

The present invention provides an object lens actuator in which a tilt of an object lens due to a change of an ambient temperature is inhibited even when a metal member is attached to a resin based securing part. It is desirable to improve quality of writing and playing in a disc drive using the object lens actuator. This is achieved by coupling a metal member having a flat portion and bent portions to a securing part near top ends of the bent portions. The flat portion has a normal in the focusing direction. The bent portions extend in the focusing direction from the respective ends of the flat portion in the tracking direction. The securing part has an opening therethrough in the focusing direction, and in the opening, the metal member and the securing part may be coupled between each outermost two support members in the focusing direction.

Object lens actuator and disc drive using the same

An objective lens actuator comprises a lens holder for attaching an objective lens thereon, a piece of focusing coil, being wound along side surface of the lens holder around the objective lens, and three magnets, being disposed opposing to two surfaces each having a normal line perpendicular to both a focusing direction and a tracking direction, among four side surfaces of the lens holder, wherein the three magnets are aligned, continuously, along the tracking direction, differing a polarity thereof from one another, and width of the magnets on both outsides is wider than width of the magnet inside, or alternately, one magnet, being disposed opposing to two surfaces each having a normal line perpendicular to both a focusing direction and a tracking direction, among four side surfaces of the lens holder, wherein the magnet is magnetized into three poles along the tracking direction, and among the three poles, width of the poles on both outsides is wider than width of the pole inside.

Objective lens actuator and a disc apparatus applying the same therein

An object lens actuator can improve workability and operate with high reliability by prevention of damage to the object lens actuator and a disc and sticking of a moving part caused by an excessive movement of the moving part. In a disc drive employing the object lens actuation, stable writing/reading operation is implemented by always keeping a focal point of an object lens at a predetermined track of a recording surface of the disc even when being under the action of external perturbations such as a vertical deviation or a radial deviation of the disc, resulting in improved reliability. A solder-flux adhesion prevention gadget is provided between a substrate and a stopper receiving face, which may include a stepped stage, a partition protruding from the surface of the lens holder, or alternatively a combination of them arranged in order in the range.

Objective lens actuator and disc drive employing the objective lens actuator

The present invention has an object to provide an object lens actuator that reduces the amplitude of vibration of an object lens related to a torsional vibration of a lens holder and to enable a disc drive using the same to record information on a disc at high speeds. The above object has been achieved by placing the thickest one of the four walls, which are in an envelope of two opening portions provided in the lens holder and which are perpendicular to a flat plate between the two opening portions, in a position which is opposite to the object lens with respect to the center line between a first support member and a second support member which resiliently support the lens holder therebetween and which is opposite to the object lens with respect to the flat plate.

An objective lens actuator which drives an objective lens in a focusing direction and a tracking direction, so as to focus lights on a recording surface of an optical disc, as a recording medium of information. The objective lens actuator includes a magnet, a lens holder which is configured to hold the objective lens thereon, and four pieces of tracking coils which are disposed in a line on a side surface of the lens holder for holding the objective lens thereon, facing to the magnet.

Objective lens actuator and a disc apparatus using the same therein

The present invention provides an optical head for realizing the stable operation by controlling the temperature of the semiconductor laser to a low level by reducing the heat transfer rate from a laser driver IC to a housing in the vicinity of a semiconductor laser, and an optical disc drive using the same. It provides an optical head having a semiconductor laser and a photo detector arranged on one side with respect to a straight line through the center of an object lens of an object lens actuator and in parallel to the axis contacted with bearings, and a laser driver IC arranged on the other side with respect to the straight line. Thereby, the distance from the laser driver IC to the semiconductor laser can sufficiently be ensured so that the heat transfer rate from the laser driver IC to the housing can be reduced.

Optical head and optical disc drive

In an object lens actuator, stiffness of a lens holder is improved and the higher order resonance frequency is sufficiently increased. The stiffness of the lens holder is improved by providing a flat plate perpendicular to the focusing direction between the side wall of a lens holding part and the outer sidewall along the tracking direction at approximately the middle of both ends of the lens holder along the focusing direction.

Object lens actuator

To improve the reliability to an environmental temperature change of an optical pickup, an optical pickuphas a semiconductor laserfor generating a laser beam. An objective lens drive leads the laser beam to a predetermined position of a disk. The semiconductor laser and objective lens drive are mounted on a pickup hosing. The objective lens drive has a movable portionand the movable portion has an objective lensfor condensing the laser beam on the recording face of the disk. A fixed portionholds the movable portion through a support member. The fixed portion has a magnetic yoke. An extended portion formed by extending a part of the yoke to the fixed portion side and the upsideof a cutout formed at the intermediate portion of the fixed portion in the tracking direction are adhered and fixed.

In an optical disk apparatus for recording and/or reading information with respect to an optical disk, comprising, a chassis for containing the optical disk, and a tray being movable with respect to the chassis and adapted to support the optical disk thereon so that the optical disk is movable with respect to the chassis, the chassis has an opening for discharging an air from an inside of the chassis to an outside of the chassis through the opening.

In an optical pickup device, heat conduction from a semiconductor laser to a pickup case is to be increased, thereby to prevent the semiconductor laser from deteriorating in performance, being reduced in durability and in committing erroneous actions, and to improve its reliability. An optical pickup device comprises a semiconductor laser for recording or playing back information onto or from an optical disk, a laser drive circuit to control the driving of the semiconductor laser, a pickup case for mounting the semiconductor laser and the laser drive circuit, and a signal transmitting flexible substrate for transmitting signals and the like to the semiconductor laser. To this optical pickup device is added a heat conducting flexible member for thermally connecting the semiconductor laser and the pickup case.
