Disclosed is an image display device to secure uniformity of a screen without luminance unevenness by reducing the number of signal lines and enhancing accuracy in voltages to be applied to respective pixels. In an interval after a scan line Gn+2 is set to selection potential until the scan line Gn+2 is set to non-selection potential, a first display signal having first electric potential to be given to a pixel electrode A is supplied to a signal line, whereby the pixel electrode A and a pixel electrode B are provided with the first electric potential. In addition, after the scan line Gn+2 is set to the non-selection potential, a second display signal having second electric potential to be given to the pixel electrode B is supplied to the signal line, whereby the pixel electrode B is provided with the second electric potential. In this event, a variation of compensative potential for offsetting a difference between an electric potential variation corresponding to parasitic capacitance between the pixel electrode A and scan lines Gn+1 and Gn+2, and an electric potential variation corresponding to parasitic capacitance between the pixel electrode B and the scan line Gn+1, is given to the scan lines Gn+1 and Gn+2 for compensation.

An image display device, a scan line drive circuit and a driver circuit for the display device capable of driving the display device having a multiplex pixel structure by simple control and utilizing a simplified gate driver. The image display device includes a plurality of pixel electrodes, a plurality of scan lines G for supplying scan signals to turn on and off these pixel electrodes, a pulse generator for generating a shift pulse, buffers B provided corresponding to the respective scan lines G, and a shift register unit in which first and second shift registers SRand SRare alternately cascade-connected. The shift pulse is propagated through the first and the second shift registers SRand SRby outputting the shift pulse from the pulse generator to the shift register unit. In this way, the shift pulse is controlled to be propagated between a buffer B to an adjacent buffer B in one horizontal scanning cycle.

Time period TA is adjusted to be longer than time period TB.

The outputting step is performed at a faster rate than the concurrent storing step. Consequently, the size of the storage device can be limited.

An active matrix display device has an inspection circuit for inspecting the image quality. The inspection circuit includes a plurality of input terminals for inputting a test signal and a plurality of test transistors connected respectively to the input terminals. Input test signals which are to be sent to sub pixel sections from the individual input terminals are controlled by the associated test transistors to display a desired test screen. The test transistors are preferably amorphous silicon TFTs.

A circumferential area of a liquid-crystal cell is provided with a common wiring, a gate wiring, a source wiring, and an alignment film. The alignment film is insulated from the gate wiring and the source wiring by an insulating film. The common wiring is provided with a common-potential exposure portion through an opening formed on the insulating film and electrically connected with the alignment film. Because a common potential close to an average potential of cells is supplied to the alignment film, it is possible to prevent screen display troubles and deterioration caused by impurity ions remaining on the surface or the inside of the alignment film.

A liquid crystal display, and its manufacturing process, are provided in which antistatic measures are taken in the manufacturing process to prevent the occurrence of static failure before the formation during that process of the short ring. On a glass substrate 2, gate lines 46 are formed. The gate lines 46 are disconnected to form a discharge gap 50 with projections 52 and 54 on both sides of the gap 50. The discharge projections 52 and 54 are positioned substantially at the center of the edges of the disconnected portion of the gate lines 46. A gate insulation film 56 is formed on the gate lines 46 and in the discharge gap 50. Two through holes 58 are made in the gate insulation film 56 in the vicinity of the discharge projections 52 and 54 of each gate line 46. A metal wiring layer 48 is formed on the gate insulation film 56 so as to fill in the through holes 58 where the discharge gap is no longer necessary.
