To make it possible to comprehensively predict the movement of people by associating an elevator control system in a facility such as a building and an external system other than this system with each other and thereby provide a new service that has not existed before. There is provided an elevator operation management system for controlling and managing multiple elevator devices in a facility, the system including: a reception unit that acquires information on the number of users to use the elevator devices and elevator car destination information; a learning unit that stores and learns, as past experience data, the information on the number of users and the elevator car destination information acquired from the reception unit; a per-floor number-of-people estimation unit that estimates the number of users getting off at each elevator hall floor using storage information of the learning unit; and a request information output unit that outputs the number of people getting off thus estimated in the facility to a system other than the elevator operation management system.

To realize high-quality printing with less printing distortion by reducing an influence of a Coulomb force that acts between ink particles which are ejected in an inkjet recording device. A traffic-volume prediction device includes a simple-network creation device that makes a simple network connecting principal intersections extracted from travelling loci in the collected probe data, a model creation device that determines a utility between the principal intersections based on the data of the travelling loci and calculates a selection probability for each principal intersection based on the utility, and a traffic-volume assignment device that distributes a traffic volume to the routes between the principal intersections according to the selection probability and uses the traffic volume for each route candidate to be a traffic demand prediction object.

A route information supply system comprises a reception module which receives information on a current position and a destination from a terminal device by communication, a map data storage module storing at least detailed map data and summary map data, a traffic information storage module which stores traffic information, a route search module which searches for a guidance route based on the current position and the destination, a map information generation module which generates map information on an area containing the searched route by use of the map data storage module, and an output module which outputs the generated map information to the terminal device. When an event satisfying a prescribed condition regarding the traffic information exists in the area, the map information generation module generates map information on an area in the vicinity of a point where the event has occurred by use of the detailed map data.

An oil return passage for returning oil from a cylinder head to an oil pan is arranged along the downward first side surface of an engine that is mounted in a vehicle such that a center axis of a cylinder thereof is slanted with respect to a vertical direction of the vehicle. An oil return extension pipe is coupled to an outlet end of the oil return passage, and extends toward a second side surface of the engine that is opposite from the first side surface on which the oil return passage is provided. Thus, engine oil can be reliably returned to the oil pan from the cylinder head of the engine even when the vehicle is experiencing high acceleration in a direction that tends to cause backflow of the oil through the engine oil return system.

An electronic toll collection system (ETCS) for use in a tollgate for charging a car without the need for the car to stop, in which communication failures or errors due to reflected waves from a structure or a passing car are prevented. A roadside communication antenna which communicates with a vehicle-mounted communication antenna for charging, and a car sensor which detects a car (cars) in an area wider than a designed communication area are installed at the tollgate. As an electromagnetic wave path judgment section obtains data on the profile and position of a car which has entered the tollgate, from a car data detector, it calculates electromagnetic wave paths of direct and reflected waves which connect the roadside communication antenna and the vehicle-mounted antenna in each of the cars, and calculates the receiving electric field strength for each of the paths. The direction of the path which has the highest field strength among the paths to the car in the communication area is selected as radiation direction and the direction of the other paths as radiation direction; then the directional pattern which makes the radiant intensity in radiation direction the maximum and that in radiation direction null is determined to control the radiation direction of the antenna unit through a directivity controller.

Toll collection system and its communication method

A method of etching a III-V compound semiconductor uses an etching gas including the group V element of the III-V compound semiconductor substrate layer while keeping the III-V compound semiconductor layer at a temperature higher than the crystal growth temperature of the III-V compound semiconductor. Etching using this method provides a higher degree of controllability than wet etching. In addition, because no etching solution is employed, the etching method can be employed in a crystal growth apparatus. Further, because an element of the III-V compound semiconductor layer is employed in the etching gas, incorporation of residual impurities can be prevented, keeping the etched surface clean.

Semiconductor device structure including InAlAs or InAlGaAs current

A method of fabricating a semiconductor laser producing visible light includes forming a double heterojunction (DH) structure on a GaAs substrate including an n type GaAs buffer layer, an n type AlGaInP cladding layer, an Al.sub.x Ga.sub.(1-x) InP active layer, a first p type AlGaInP cladding layer, a p type GaInP etch stopping layer, a second p type AlGaInP cladding layer, and a p type GaAs cap layer. A stripe-shaped mask is formed on the DH structure, the p type GaAs cap layer is selectively etched using the mask, and the second p type AlGaInP cladding layer is selectively etched to the p type GaInP etch stopping layer to form a stripe-shaped ridge. Therefore, a high precision ridge can be formed easily.

Method of making semiconductor laser

An apparatus for zone-melting recrystallization of a semiconductor layer includes a first heater, on which a semiconductor wafer including the semiconductor layer and upper and lower insulating films sandwiching the semiconductor layer is mounted, for radiantly heating a rear surface of the semiconductor wafer to a temperature at which the semiconductor layer and the insulating layers are not melted; and a second heater disposed above the semiconductor wafer and radiantly heating a front surface of the semiconductor wafer. The second heater has a heat generating point that produces a heated spot in the semiconductor layer and moves spirally while maintaining a fixed distance from the semiconductor wafer, thereby producing a large-area monocrystalline region in the semiconductor layer. In this zone-melting recrystallization, a single crystalline nucleus is produced in the semiconductor layer, and the entire semiconductor layer is recrystallized with the crystalline nucleus as a seed crystal. Therefore, the semiconductor layer is recrystallized with the same crystal structure and orientation as the crystalline nucleus, so that grain boundaries are reduced, resulting in a semiconductor layer with increased grain size.
