A reflection mirror of a projection display unit which displays a stereoscopic image through a light polarization glasses, reflects a linearly polarized light emitted from a projection source through a polarizing plate toward a screen. The reflection mirror includes: a glass substrate; a metal film provided on the glass substrate; a first dielectric film provided on the metal film; and a second dielectric film provided on the first dielectric film, wherein each of the first and second dielectric films includes a predetermined thickness and a predetermined refractive index so that a phase difference between a p-polarized light of a reflected light and a s-polarized light of the reflected light is within a range from -45 degree to 45 degree in case of an incident angle of the linearly polarized light being varied from 0 degree to 45 degree.

A three color separation/synthesis mirror device includes a housing, four dichroic mirrors which are arranged in the housing and cross with each other at right angles to form an X-shape, and a liquid filled in the housing so as to submerge the respective dichroic mirrors. A refractive index of the liquid is higher than that of the dichroic mirrors. A correction prism for making an emergent light in parallel to an incidental light may be located in a corner on the incidental side of the X-shaped dichroic mirrors. Double image blurs due to the entrance rays can be obviated. Also, such a characteristic that the refractive index of the liquid is lowered when the liquid is heated, is utilized so that the refractive index of the liquid becomes close to the refractive index of the glass.

A three color separation/synthesis mirror device for a liquid crystal projector comprises four dichroic mirrors whose joint part has a V-shaped notch in which a higher refractive index is filled thereby to eliminate stray lights. The device may have a prism at the joint part for causing an emitted light to be parallel with an incident light.

A cooling device has a container filled with a coolant. A front side and a rear side of the container are transparent. A heatsink is provided for cooling the container. A liquid crystal panel is attached to one of the sides. Convection enhancing means is provided for enchancing convection of the coolant in the container.
