A method of driving an OLED display device includes receiving image data. A load value is determined for each sub-pixel. A first load value is set to a largest load value determined for each sub-pixel. A first correction factor is calculated that decreases as the first load value increases, when the first load value is greater than a first threshold. A second load value is calculated based on the image data and current contribution weights for the sub-pixels. A second correction factor is calculated that decreases as the second load value increases, when the second load value is greater than a second threshold. Either the first correction factor or the second correction factor is selected. The image data is converted into output image data based on the correction factor. An image corresponding to the output image data is displayed.

A luminance compensator in a display device includes a temperature sensor that detects a temperature of a display panel, a temperature estimator that calculates an estimated temperature of each of a plurality of pixel blocks based on an average luminance of each pixel block and the temperature of the display panel, a first weight calculator that detects a displacement of the display panel and calculates a first temperature compensation weight for first compensation pixel blocks of the pixel blocks, the first compensation pixel blocks being adjacent to an upper side of an image pattern area displayed on a portion of the display panel, and a temperature compensator that calculates temperature compensation data by applying the first temperature compensation weight to the estimated temperature to compensate the average luminance, and outputs the temperature compensation data.

A display device and a method of driving the same are disclosed. In one aspect, the display device includes a gamma generator configured to generate emission duty data having an emission duty period based on input image data, a panel load calculator configured to calculate a load of the display panel, and a target driving voltage determiner configured to determine a target driving voltage. The display device also includes an emission duty controller configured to adjust the emission duty period and determine a target global current, driver configured to drive the display panel, and a driving voltage generator configured to supply the driving voltage to the display panel, measure driving currents flowing into the display panel, and adjust the driving voltage to include the target driving voltage based on the difference between the sum of the measured driving currents and the target global current.

Display device and method of driving the display device

A display device including a liquid crystal display unit and a controller displays an image using a liquid crystal. The controller extracts a compensation data from a gray compensation look-up table (LUT) corresponding to a temperature interval including a peripheral temperature of the display device to output the compensation data to the liquid crystal display unit as a compensated gray data. When the gray compensation LUT does not exist, the controller extracts the compensation data from the gray compensation LUT corresponding to the temperature interval approximating the peripheral temperature to generate the compensated gray data. The gray compensation LUT as a default and a calculated gray compensation LUT may be used to provide the compensated gray data optimized for the response speed of the liquid crystal according to variance in temperature, while reducing a memory capacity of a ROM and a RAM inside the timing controller and an external EEPROM.

An image display device includes an image signal source unit to provide primary image data and selected compensation data to compensate the primary image data, and a display unit to display images using compensated image data obtained by compensating the primary image data with the selected compensation data. The selected compensation data is selected from a set of compensation data in response to variation of ambient temperature of the display device. The image display device also includes a temperature sensor to detect the variation of the ambient temperature of the display device and provide temperature data corresponding to the variation of the ambient temperature. The image display device also includes a frequency sensor to detect frequency variation in a vertical synchronizing signal of the display unit, wherein the selected compensation data is selected from a set of compensation data in response to the variation of the ambient temperature and the frequency variation.

An LCD for improving dynamic contrast by adjusting gamma voltages according to the brightness of an image is provided. The LCD includes: a liquid crystal display panel assembly having a plurality of pixels provided on crossing areas of a plurality of gate lines and a plurality of data lines; a gate driver applying voltage signals for sequentially scanning the gate lines; a source driver applying voltage signals for image display to the data lines; a timing controller providing image data and a control signal for the source driver, providing a gate line on/off control signal for the gate driver, and outputting digital gamma data to a digital/analogue (D/A) converter; and the D/A converter connected to the timing controller for converting the digital gamma data from the timing controller into analog signals to generate a plurality of gamma voltages and outputting the gamma voltages to the source driver. The LCD generates the gamma voltages by the D/A converter in place of using serially-connected resistors, and thus, the gamma voltages may vary depending on the brightness of the image.

Liquid crystal display for improving dynamic contrast and a method for generating gamma voltages for the liquid crystal display

An apparatus for driving a display device includes a timing controller and a data driver. The timing controller encodes first gray scale data of a present frame, decodes encoded second gray scale data of a previous frame, compares the first gray scale data with the second gray scale data, and generates compensated gray scale data based on a result of comparing the first gray scale data with the second gray scale data. The data driver generates data signal based on the compensated gray scale data to provide the data lines with the data signal. The gray scale data are encoded so that the toggle number between adjacent data pins into which the gray scale data are output may be reduce. The encoded gray scale data are stored in a memory. Thus, the power consumption is reduced, and the EMI may be reduced.

Disclosed are an LCD capable of realizing a pre-charging method even in the random data-enable mode, and an apparatus and method for driving the same. In the LCD driving apparatus, a timing controller outputs a vertical sync start signal based on a data-enable signal having an irregular output interval to control the output of the image data. A gate driver sequentially applies both first and second gate-on voltages to a same gate line based on the vertical sync start signal. The first gate-on voltage is to drive a previous line being most adjacent to and having the same polarity as the current line, and the second gate-on voltage is to drive the current line. An LCD panel is first charged with the first gate-on voltage supplied from the gate driver, and then charged with the second gate-on voltage, so that it can display analog image data received from the data driver during the second charging.

An image display device includes a display panel having pixels, and a signal compensate unit for receiving first, second and third image signals externally provided, and for generating a first compensate signal obtained from the first and second image signals. The signal compensate unit generates a second compensate signal obtained from the first compensate signal and the first and third image signals. The timing control circuit can evidently reduce visually recognized flickers by dimming the brightness of the backlight when the detected flickers is more than given rate.
