An engine start control device is provided with: a starter relay that is provided between a battery and a starter motor; a start abnormality determining means that determines the occurrence of start abnormality of an engine; and a start control means, which turns on the starter relay, and starts supplying power from the battery to the starter motor in the cases where a start instruction signal is inputted from a start switch, and which turns off the starter relay in the cases where the start abnormality determining means determined the occurrence of start abnormality of the engine.

Engine start control device

A mounting structure is provided for an air-fuel ratio sensor on an exhaust pipe in a motorcycle in which a concentration of oxygen in an exhaust gas can be detected efficiently and accurately by the air-fuel ratio sensor. The air-fuel ratio sensor is mounted on a convergent connector of exhaust pipes, which, in turn, are operatively connected to the cylinders of a multi-cylinder engine. The air-fuel ratio sensor is located upstream of catalytic converters provided in the exhaust pipes, and may be mounted so as to be oriented substantially vertically when the motorcycle is in an upright configuration, or alternatively, may be inclined toward the rear of the motorcycle.

A mounting structure for an air-fuel ratio sensor in a motorcycle is provided which eliminates the influence of water gathered in an exhaust pipe upon the air-fuel ratio sensor and improves the mountability of the air-fuel ratio sensor to the exhaust pipe. The air-fuel ratio sensor is mounted on an exhaust pipe connected to an engine in a motorcycle so that the air-fuel ratio sensor extends radially with respect to a longitudinal axis of the exhaust pipe, and is inclined upward by an angle of 10&#xb0; or more with respect to a horizontal line H passing through the center of the exhaust pipein its cross section. The air-fuel ratio sensor is pointed toward the central lateral plane of the motorcycle as viewed in front elevation of the motorcycle.

A jet-propelled watercraft capable of maintaining a propulsion force required for a turn made at the same time as closing of a throttle valve. The jet-propelled watercraft has an auxiliary intake valve and an ECU. The auxiliary intake valve in an intake pipe opens/closes an auxiliary intake passage to bypass a throttle valve. The ECU performs control such that an opening of the auxiliary intake valve in a state where the rotation speed of the engine is not lower than a threshold value is larger than the opening of the auxiliary intake valve in a state where the engine is idling. When in a state where the rotation speed is not lower than the threshold value, it is detected that the throttle valve is completely closed and that a steering mechanism has been turned by a prescribed angle or more, a current opening of the auxiliary intake valve is maintained.

Jet-propelled watercraft

To provide a jet propulsion boat that enables preventing the occurrence of cavitation. In a jet propulsion boat that jets water pressurized and accelerated by a water jet pump from a rear jet nozzle and is propelled by its reaction, a turbocharger is provided to an engine for driving the water jet pump and in case the rate of the rise of engine speed is a predetermined value or more, delay control is applied to the rise of the boost pressure of the turbocharger.

Jet propulsion boat

To provide an engine control unit that can easily realize reacceleration in a jet propulsion boat. In a controller mounted in a jet propulsion boat that jets water pressurized and accelerated by a water jet pump from a rear jet and is propelled by its reaction, in case a throttle angle of an engine narrows in a state in which the speed of the engine that drives the water jet pump is equal to or exceeds a predetermined value, advance angle control is made over the ignition timing of the engine.

Engine control unit

A control unit is provided for increasing the number of engine revolutions per minute to a predetermined number of revolutions per minute when the throttle is closed and when the engine has been rotated for more than a prescribed time period at more than a prescribed number of revolutions per minute, and the throttle has been opened for more than a prescribed time period at more than a prescribed opening. The control unit increases the number of engine revolutions per minute to a predetermined number of revolutions per minute irrespective of the throttle and maintains the same for a predetermined retention time when the steering handle is turned to the left or the right by more than a prescribed angle. The time to start controlling the number of engine revolutions per minute may be delayed by providing a delay time for delaying the time to start controlling the engine revolutions. The number of engine revolutions per minute may be controlled after the hull is underwater. As a consequence, the amount of sideslip of the jet propulsion boat can be improved. In addition, since the control unit for increasing the number of engine revolutions per minute to a predetermined number of revolutions per minute irrespective of the throttle and maintaining the same for a predetermined retention time is provided, the quantity of jet water stream is secured. As a result, the steering of the jet propulsion boat is improved.

A charge-injected internal combustion engine exhibits improved starting performance with charge-injection timing control. A charge-injected internal combustion engine has an air-fuel injection valve for directly injecting a compressed air-fuel mixture into a combustion chamber. The engine is also provided with an air pump, driven by the crankshaft for discharging compressed air, and a timing controller for setting injection timing of the air-fuel injection valve. When initial startup of the engine is detected, the controller sets the injection timing to the intake stroke. When the engine reaches a predetermined engine speed, or when the pressure of the injection air reaches a threshold pressure where injection of the air-fuel mixture is possible on the compression stroke, the timing controller switches the injection timing from the intake stroke to the compression stroke.

Charge-injected internal combustion engine, and method of operating same

To provide an engine control unit for facilitating steering control. In particular, the invention relates to a controller of a boat propelled by jetting water pressurized and accelerated by a water jet pump. If a throttle angle of an engine for driving the water jet pump is a predetermined value or less and a steering angle by a steering handlebar of the jet propulsion boat is a predetermined value or more, a throttle valve of the engine is operated in an opened direction and advance angle control is made over the normal ignition timing of the engine.

The burning of unburned fuel in an exhaust pipe is a technique for preventing a turbo lag. However, since the technique requires combustion in the exhaust pipe, the temperature in the exhaust pipe becomes high, which is likely to damage the exhaust pipe, cause the exhaust emissions to deteriorate. The present invention addresses this problem by providing an ignition control apparatus for an engine with a turbocharger, capable of adjusting an ignition timing and a turbocharger. When a throttle valve is opened rapidly, the ignition control apparatus causes the ignition timing to advance with respect to the ordinary ignition timing. Consequently, the start of combustion is advanced, and the speed of rotation of the engine is raised, thereby increasing the speed of an exhaust turbine to achieve the desired increase in engine performance, without the problems of conventional ignition control systems.

Ignition control apparatus for engine with turbocharger

A controller that executes engine output control that a throttle is closed when a boat is navigated at a predetermined speed or higher and the output of an engine is gradually increased up to predetermined output when a steering system is steered right or left at a predetermined angle or more is provided. Thus, an overshoot phenomenon that the engine speed is held at a predetermined engine speed after the engine speed once increases up to the predetermined engine speed or higher when the engine speed is increased in deceleration can be avoided. As a result, the body of the boat can be prevented from sliding laterally to a great extent at the beginning of turning and the turning performance of the body can be enhanced.

When a large load is exerted during restraint control of an engine of a jet propulsion boat, the drop of the engine revolution frequency causes a feeling of harsh braking. An engine revolution frequency control apparatus provided to prevent this problem includes a engine revolution frequency detector for detecting an engine revolution frequency, and threshold value setting units for setting first and second engine revolution frequency threshold values. The second threshold value is set to be higher than the first threshold value. An engine control unit includes an overspeed governing capability that starts restraint control for restraining rotation when the engine revolution frequency detected by the engine revolution frequency detector is more than said first threshold value when the engine is accelerating, and terminates restraint control when the engine revolution frequency is less than a second thresholds value during deceleration.
