A bulb-type lamp having both heat dissipation and size/weight reduction properties with a lower thermal load on a lighting circuit. An LED module is mounted in a case with a base member to allow dissipation of heat. An LED mount member closes another end of the case and allows conduction of heat to the case. A lighting circuit receives power via the base member. The lighting circuit is disposed inside a circuit holder. An air space exists between the circuit holder and both the case and the mount member. The lighting circuit is isolated from the air space by the circuit holder. A relationship 0.5&#x2266;S/S&#x2266;3.0, is satisfied where Sdenotes an area of a portion of the mount member in contact with the case and Sdenotes an area of the portion of the mount member in contact with a substrate of the LED module.

An electrodeless self-ballasted fluorescent lamp includes an electrodeless fluorescent lamp, a ballast circuitand a lamp base which are formed as one unit. The ballast circuitincludes: an AC-DC converter; a DC-AC converterformed so as to intermittently drive the electrodeless fluorescent lamp; and a dimming controllerformed so as to detect the turn-on of a phase-controlled AC voltage and output an intermittent command signal for changing the ratio between an operating period and an extinguishing period to the DC-AC converter. A discharge lamp includes a luminous bulb in which a luminous material is enclosed and a pair of electrodes are opposed to each other in the luminous bulb; and a pair of sealing portions for sealing a pair of metal foils electrically connected to the pair of electrodes, respectively. The pair of metal foils have a pair of external leads on the side opposite to the side electrically connected to the pair of electrodes, respectively. The present invention provides a long-life discharge lamp by removing the causes of lowering the service life of the discharge lamp owing to quartz glass constituting the discharge lamp and a gas sealed therein, and also provides a discharge lamp production method wherein the mixing of impurities affecting the service life of the discharge lamp is prevented. In the discharge lamp the content of hydrogen, oxygen and their compounds existing in the light-emitting portion is such that the maximum intensity of the light-emitting spectral intensities of the above impurities is {fraction (1/1000)} or less of the intensity of the main light-emitting spectrum of the noble gas when glow discharge occurs by supplying a current of 3 mA, and also the content of OH groups included in the quartz glass of the sealing portions is 5 ppm or less by weight.

A method for producing a discharge lamp of the present invention includes the steps of: preparing a glass pipe for a discharge lamp having a luminous bulb portion and a side tube portion, and a single electrode assembly including an electrode structure portion that will be formed into a pair of electrodes of the discharge lamp; inserting the single electrode assembly into the glass pipe for a discharge lamp such that the electrode structure portion of the single electrode assembly is positioned in the luminous bulb portion of the glass pipe for a discharge lamp; forming a luminous bulb in which the electrode structure portion is arranged inside by attaching the side tube portion of the glass pipe for a discharge lamp to a part of the single electrode assembly; and forming a pair of electrodes in the luminous bulb by melting and cutting a part of the electrode structure portion selectively.
