A biaxially stretched blow molded bottle of a synthetic resin having a big foot type petaloid bottom is produced in a blow time of not more than 3 seconds, and after the bottle has been released from the mold, the temperature of the bottom portion of the bottom does not rise higher than 70.degree. C., thereby supplementing the capability of the metal mold for cooling the bottom portion. Thus, irregular deformation of the central part of the bottom portion is prevented, molding of the bottom portion with high pressure resisting and mechanical strength is achieved to avoid breakage, and a sufficient height of the central part of the bottom portion is ensured. Additionally, productivity of pressure resisting bottles is improved by reducing the blow time from 4-5 seconds to not more than 3 seconds.

Apparatus for controlling the dose of irradiation

An irradiating apparatus comprises a bucket group consisting a plurality of buckets spaced equally from each other and connected to a first endless chain, and a roller group consisting of a plurality of roller located under the bucket group. Each bucket comprises a barrel shaped body having a bottom which has a plurality of openings. Moreover, the bucket receives an article to be transferred such as preform and transfers it in a horizontal position therein. The rollers are connected to second endless chains. A pair of rollers are arranged parallel to each other in the transfer direction. The roller has a plurality of lands which intrude in the openings of the bucket. A pair of rollers are rotated in the same direction to rotate the article to be transferred. The roller group travels at the same speed in the same direction as those of the bucket.

An inverting mechanism according to the present invention comprises an inverting body for inverting which includes a plate member fixed to each of a plurality of carriers connected to an endless chain and four inverting elements rotatably supported on each plate member at circumferential positions spaced equidistant from each other, and an inverting cam provided on a rack rail on which the inverting elements roll. The inverting element on the body traveling on the rail drops into a groove formed in the inverting cam to rotate the body about the dropped inverting element as another inverting element rolls along a projection on the reversing cam to downwardly direct the top opening of the carrier and thereby an article to be transferred can be taken out of the carrier.

A hollow container of biaxially oriented synthetic resin engaged at the bottom portion thereof with a base cap, in which a bottom portion and a body portion are biaxially oriented, said bottom portion is formed in a regular circular shape of cross section and in a spherical shape swelled downwardly, comprising a base cap having a bottom wall for supporting the lower surface of the bottom portion of said container and a peripheral wall erected upwardly from the peripheral wall of said bottom wall and capable of elastically deforming; and said base cap being watertightly engaged at the inner surface of the peripheral wall thereof with the outer surface of the peripheral wall of the lower end portion of said container and engaged with said container. This container is manufactured by a method of engaging the container with a base cap having no air vent hole. Thus, the air can be readily exhausted in case of press-fitting the bottom of the container into the cap.

A transparent thin bottle-shaped container is produced by means of a technology for biaxial orientation blow molding a cylindrical piece with a bottom from polyethylene terephthalate material. The pieces are molded in large number in each injection molding process of an injection molding machine. The pieces thus formed immediately after the injection molding are held simultaneously in large number at the gates integrally projected therefrom by a base plate moved forward at the front of the mold in the injection molding machine. They are then conveyed to a gate cutting unit provided near the injection molding machine. The gates are cut from the pieces sequentially by the gate cutting unit and are conveyed onto a conveyor. The pieces are gradually cooled from the hot molded temperature during the conveyance and are additionally cooled while being conveyed on an oblique conveyor installed with a cooler to room temperature or lower predetermined temperature. The cooled pieces are then supplied to a heater immediately before entering a biaxial orientation blow molding process.
