Camshaft sprockets are fixed to ends of an intake camshaft and an exhaust camshaft supported between a lower camshaft holder and an upper camshaft holder, and a timing chain is wrapped around these camshaft sprockets. A variable cam phase mechanism is provided on the intake camshaft sprocket, and an oil jet that issues a jet of oil for lubricating the timing chain is disposed between the exhaust camshaft sprocket and the lower camshaft holder. The jet of oil issued by the oil jet is directed toward the section where the intake camshaft sprocket is meshed with the timing chain. The oil jet that issues a jet of oil for lubricating the timing chain can thereby be arranged in a compact manner.

Timing chain lubricating structure for engine

A valve operating system in an internal combustion engine includes a cam shaft provided with a valve operating cam, a rocker arm having a pair of support wall portions which are integrally connected at their base ends to a swinging support portion swingably supported on a support member mounted on a cylinder head and which are opposed to each other at a distance in a direction along the swinging axis of the swinging support portion, a support shaft supported between the support wall portions, and a roller which is rotatably supported on the support shaft with a bearing interposed therebetween so as to be in rolling contact with the valve operating cam. A lower connecting wall interconnecting lower portions of the base ends of the support wall portions is projectingly provided on the swinging support portion in a manner opposed to an outer peripheral surface of a lower portion of the roller. Thus, it is possible to increase the rigidity of the rocker arm, while avoiding an increase in size of the rocker arm.

Valve operating system in internal combustion engine

An electric discharge is then generated between a work piece and the wire electrode on which the electric discharge surface treatment material is stuck, and a surface modified layer is formed on the surface of the work piece by the energy of the electric discharge.

In a valve operating system for an internal combustion engine, a support shaft supporting a roller is fitted in a fitting bore of a rocker arm, and a pin fixed in the rocker arm engages with an engage groove provided on the outer surface of the support shaft so as to extend in a direction tangential to an imaginary circle about the axis of the support shaft, an insertion bore which extends in a straight line and connects to an inner surface of a fitting bore at a position corresponding to the engage groove of the support shaft is provided in the rocker arm and the pin engaging with the engage groove by being inserted into the insertion bore is engaged with the rocker arm by crimping at least one end of the pin with flat punches so as to be fixed in the rocker arm. The pin can thus be fixed effectively in the rocker arm while maintaining the rigidity of the rocker arm.

Valve operating system for internal combustion engine

On the upper portion of a cylinder head 1 of an engine mounted on a vehicle body in such a way that a crankshaft faces in the lateral direction of the body, a head cover 36 is supported in a floating state through an elastic member 14 and a rubber bush 52. A pair of TDC sensors 37i and 37e for detecting the rotational positions of engine camshafts 6i and 6e, are attached from the outside to the front surface and to the rear portion of the upper surface of the head cover 36 with bolts 38 respectively in such a way as not to interfere with a bonnet 39 of the body descending forward. Consequently, while ensuring the maintainability of the TDC sensors 37i and 37e of the engine, the TDC sensors 37i and 37e can compactly be attached to the engine.

Rotation detecting device of an engine

A first thrust limiting member and a second thrust limiting member are provided on a cam shaft rotatably carried between a lower cam shaft holder and an upper cam shaft holder which are fixed to an upper surface of a cylinder head 1, so that the first and second thrust limiting members and abut against the cam shaft holders 9.sub.5 and 10.sub.5. The second thrust limiting member has a plurality of detected projections provided around of an outer periphery thereof, so that the detected projections are detected by a TDC sensor 37 mounted to a head cover of the engine. Thus, the rotated position (phase), the angle of rotation and the number of rotations of an rotary shaft of an engine such as a cam shaft 6e and a crankshaft can be detected with good accuracy in a structure including a decreased number of parts, and the axial dimension of the rotary shaft of the engine can be reduced.
