An electron beam aperture of a second grid electrode of a color cathode ray tube is a rectangular hole formed in the center of a slit-like recess having longer sides extending in the horizontal direction. The vertical width of the rectangular hole is greater than the width of each shorter side of the slit-like recess.

Color cathode ray tube with reduced halo

An electron gun for color picture tube has a focusing electrode and an anode electrode respectively formed of an oval thick plate for forming main focusing lenses. Each of the focusing electrode and anode is formed with three electron beam passing holes arranged in line in a direction orthogonal to a tube axis of the picture tube. The focusing electrode and the anode are arranged to oppose each other with a distance therebetween such that their corresponding electron beam passing holes oppose each other. When predetermined voltages are applied to the focusing electrode and anode, main lenses are formed between the respective opposing holes. As viewed along the tube axis, the in line electron beam passing holes of each electrode include two outer electron beam passing holes each having an outer half in the form of a semi-circle and an inner half in the form of a semi-ellipse having a diameter of the semi-circle as its major axis and a central electron beam passing hole in the form of an ellipse having a major axis which is equal to the diameter of the semi-circle and which extends in a direction orthogonal to the direction of arrangement of the electron beam passing holes.

Electron gun for color picture tube with electrostatic focussing lens

In an in-line type electron gun structure including three in-line type electron guns and a plurality of grid electrodes respectively aligned with the electron guns, each sleeve electrode has a length equal to at least 50% of an inner diameter thereof and the inner diameter is gradually increased toward a free end of the sleeve-shaped electrode from a point at about one half of the length thereof. This construction eliminates an auxiliary electrode, thus reducing the cost of manufacturing.

In-line type electron gun structure

A first grid electrode for an in-line type color picture tube electron gun and a method for fabrication thereof are disclosed. This electrode is formed of a single metal plate, and has a first recess having a predetermined width and depth formed in one surface of the metal plate and extending in the same direction as a direction in which a plurality of cathodes of the electron gun are arranged, and a second recess having a predetermined width and depth formed in the other surface of the metal plate and extending in the direction perpendicular to the extending direction of the first recess.
