The present invention is a method of sealing a metal vacuum structure (vacuum bottle) for evacuating a space S closed by component members (an inner shell,and an outer shell,) through an evacuation port and then sealing the evacuation port. Forming a brazing-material placing recess,in one of the component members, the brazing-material placing recess opening downward when the structure is set for evacuation; forming an aperture,in the brazing-material placing recess; placing brazing material, in molten state, in the brazing-material placing recess in such a way as to block the aperture and fixing the brazing material; forming an evacuation port,in the brazing material; fixing a drop preventing member,having a through hole,on the component member in opposed relation to the brazing material; evacuating the space closed by the component members through the evacuation port of the brazing material; melting the brazing material; and making the evacuation port disappear to seal it by melting the brazing material as the drop preventing member prevents the brazing material from dropping.

Method for sealing vacuum structure

The nonfreezing pipe with a double wall construction comprises an inner shell having openings at its opposite ends, an outer shell extending axially around the inner shell to form an annular space surrounding the inner shell, and at least one end closure member connecting between one end of the outer shell and the external wall portion of the inner shell. A vacuum-insulated, double-walled metal structure comprises inner and outer shells made of a metal and seamed together to form a double-walled structure with a space between them, the space being exhausted of air. At least one of the inner and outer shells is provided with at least one activated foil of a metal selected from the group consisting of copper, titanium and zirconium. The inner shell may be wound with an activated titanium or zirconium foil, and covered by another metal foil selected from the group consisting of copper, aluminum, titanium and zirconium, except for a part of its bottom. The metal foil wound on the metal structure is activated by preliminarily exhausting air from the space so that a pressure therein becomes reduced to a low vacuum of the order of 10.sup.-2 Torr, and then heating the double-walled structure at not less than about 400.degree. A stainless steel thermos bottle comprising inner and outer bottles made of stainless steel, the inner and outer bottles being joined together at tip portions of their bottlenecks to form a double-walled construction, the space created between the two bottles being a vacuum. The surfaces of the inner and outer bottles that surround the space are provided with at least one metal deposit at least on an outer surface of the inner bottle, except for a part or all of the bottleneck surfaces in the space. The part or all of the bottleneck surfaces in the space includes the surface of the joint between the two bottles.
