Biodegradable microspheres having a diameter of 10-2000 &#x3bc;m having cross-linked hydrolysed starch onto which at least one type of ligand has been coupled via a carboxylic ester bond. The ligand shall be an endogenous, charged molecule with a molecular mass of less than 1000 Da having at least one additional carboxylic acid function in addition to the one utilised for coupling the ligand to the microsphere and/or at least one amine function. On average 0.05-1.5 ligands are coupled to each glucose moiety in the hydrolysed starch.

The present invention relates to a method at surgical operations applying negative pressure wound treatment as a post-surgical event, whereby the pressure around an organ or tissue is distributed by applying an open cell structure around the organ or tissue avoiding a move of the organ or tissue as such.

Surgical method

The present invention relates to an implantable, disposable barrier disc to be used in negative pressure treatment of wounds, in particular sternotomy wounds, wherein the barrier disc consists of a rigid material withstanding a negative pressure of at least &#x2212;50 mmHg without causing deformation to the barrier disc, and that the barrier disc is perforated to allow drainage of wound fluid through said barrier disc.
