In a first aspect, the present invention is directed to a rubber composition comprising 70 phr to 100 phr of styrene butadiene rubber including a first styrene butadiene rubber having a glass transition temperature within a range of −49° C. to −15° C. and a second styrene butadiene rubber having a glass transition temperature within a range of −50° C. to −89° C. Moreover, the rubber composition comprises 10 phr to 30 phr of one or more of natural rubber and synthetic polyisoprene rubber, 40 phr to 70 phr of silica, and 10 phr to 40 phr of at least one hydrocarbon resin selected from one or more of C5 resins, CPD resins, DCPD resins, C9 modified C5 resins, C9 modified CPD resins, and C9 modified DCPD resins. In another aspect, the present invention is directed to a tire comprising a tire tread with the aforementioned rubber composition.

Rubber composition and a tire

In a first aspect, the present invention is directed to a rubber composition comprising 70 phr to 90 phr of styrene butadiene rubber, wherein said styrene butadiene rubber comprises a first styrene butadiene rubber having a glass transition temperature within a range of &#x2212;49&#xb0; C. to &#x2212;15&#xb0; C. and a second styrene butadiene rubber having a glass transition temperature within a range of &#x2212;50&#xb0; C. to &#x2212;89&#xb0; C. Furthermore, the rubber composition comprises from 10 phr to 30 phr of one or more of natural rubber and synthetic polyisoprene rubber, 100 phr to 200 phr of silica, and at least 25 phr of at least one terpene resin having a weight average molecular weight (Mw) of at most 1000 g/mol. Moreover, the invention is directed to a tire comprising such a rubber composition, in particular in the tread of the tire.

Pneumatic tire

A tread for a pneumatic tire in accordance with the present invention includes a tread base layer, a first tread cap layer radially outside of the tread base layer, a second tread cap layer radially outside of the tread base layer and both radially outside and axially adjacent the first tread cap layer, a third intermediate layer radially between the tread base layer and the first and second tread cap layers. The first tread cap layer has a protrusion extending radially inward and into the third intermediate layer more than a main body of the first tread cap layer and the second tread cap layer thereby allowing the first tread cap layer to provide the overall tread with enhanced performance characteristics after the main body of the first tread cap layer and the second tread cap layer have worn away.

Pneumatic tire with multi-tread cap

A pneumatic tire having a tire tread is disclosed, wherein the tread comprises one or more tread elements and one or more grooves, the tread having a radially outer surface and a non-skid tread depth as measured from the radially outer surface of the tread and a radially innermost surface of the grooves. The tread has a radially innermost layer comprised of a base tread compound, a radially outer tread cap layer and a middle tread cap layer located between the base layer and the outer tread cap layer. Wherein the radially outer tread cap layer has a defined depth D, except that there is at least one notched areas wherein the tread cap layer extends radially inward of the defined depth D.
