An improved geometry for flights used in rotary drums of aggregate dryers in the manufacture of asphalt causes the aggregate to shower in an even veil across the full width of the drum under all loading conditions. An opening in the flight having a narrow bottom and wider top allows more aggregate to shower early, especially when flights are lightly loaded, on the uplift side of the drum to complete the aggregate veil and prevent hot gases from bypassing. The opening is oriented with its narrow bottom nearest the inner surface of the drum and its wider top farthest therefrom. The opening does not extend through the full height of the flight, which would form an undesired gap allowing an excessive volume of aggregate to flood out of fully loaded flights on the uplift side of rotation. Such flooding discharge causes a similar imbalance of drying to that caused by too little discharge from light loaded flights. The size and shape of the opening can be varied to adjust the amount of aggregate discharged from each flight to form the veil and to adjust the shape of the veil.

Flight for asphalt rotary dryer

A carbon reduction assembly adapted for use with wet and dry coal combustion products ('CCPs'). The assembly includes a direct-fired carbon reduction section having a dry material inlet device that is adapted to receive the dry CCPs and a direct-fired carbon reduction section burner unit that is adapted to reduce carbon content in the dry CCPs. The assembly also includes a direct-fired dryer section that is operatively connected with the direct-fired carbon reduction section and has a wet material inlet device that is adapted to receive the wet CCPs and a direct-fired dryer section drum that is adapted to dry the wet CCPs. The assembly further includes a control unit that is operatively connected with the carbon reduction section and the dryer section. An amount of hot gas generated by the carbon reduction section is conveyed to the dryer section, and the assembly is adapted to produce dry fly ash.

Apparatus and method for a carbon reduction assembly

A method for producing an asphalt concrete blend that includes the steps of drying and heating aggregate in a single and only dryer, preferably via direct heating, and without use of a pre-dryer. The aggregate is then combined with asphalt cement, preferably via indirect heating, such that the blend has an asphalt cement components (ACC) percentage of at least 25% percent to form an aggregate mix. Liquid asphalt cement may also be added to the aggregate mix. Preferably, the asphalt cement content of the final asphalt concrete blend is provided by a maximum of 70% ACC. In certain cases, the asphalt cement content of the asphalt concrete blend is comprised of ACC and liquid asphalt cement.

Hi-recycle asphalt batch plant

A dryer adapted for use in an asphalt plant. The dryer includes a drum having an inner wall and a flight having a proximal end connecting the flight to the inner wall of the drum and a distal end that is spaced apart from the proximal end. A first profile extends from the proximal end to the distal end of the flight and defines a flight shape. A notch is formed in the distal end of the flight, which notch includes a notch shape that is defined by a second profile. The second profile has a length L, a center point, and a portion that substantially approximates a conic section.

A storage silo apparatus having a storage silo including a shell wall, a secondary wall spaced radially outwards from the shell wall, and a space having a first width formed between an outer surface of the shell wall and an inner surface of the secondary wall. An insulation layer located in the space is narrower than the space such that an air gap is formed within the space. The air gap is formed radially adjacent the insulation layer and is configured to resist heat transfer between the shell wall and the secondary wall.

A combination of components for use in making asphalt concrete from a mixture of virgin aggregate material with recycled asphalt products and/or recycled asphalt shingles encompasses a direct dryer for heating virgin aggregate material; a pre-dryer for heating recycled asphalt product and/or recycled asphalt shingles, said pre-dryer using warm exhaust gas from said direct dryer to heat the recycled asphalt product and/or recycled asphalt shingles; and means for conveying warm exhaust gas from said direct dryer to said pre-dryer.

A bulk material storage container assembly for storing and unloading particulate material includes a storage vessel adapted to hold particulate material. A discharge port is in fluid communication with the storage vessel and with a discharge port outlet. The discharge port is also sized and shaped to facilitate bridging of particulate material. A shaft is mounted within the storage vessel adjacent to the discharge port and adapted for reciprocal movement with respect to the discharge port. A rake is mounted on said shaft and adapted to disaggregate particulate material that has bridged proximate the discharge port as the shaft is reciprocated with respect to the discharge port.

Bulk material unloading system

A combination of components is provided for use in making asphalt concrete from a plurality of aggregate material streams. The combination includes an indirect dryer for heating aggregate material from a first material stream without directly exposing said first stream material to hot gases of combustion. The combination also includes a mixer for mixing aggregate material from the first material stream, aggregate material that has not been heated in the indirect dryer from a second material stream, and a binder component to produce asphalt concrete.

Method and apparatus for making asphalt concrete using aggregate material from a plurality of material streams

A dryer adapted for use in an asphalt plant. The dryer comprises a drum having an inner wall and a plurality of flights, each of which is disposed on the inner wall of the drum and each of which has a proximal end and a distal end spaced apart from the proximal end. At least one of the plurality of flights comprises a V-shaped notch. A method for drying components of asphalt comprising drying the components of asphalt in the drum of such a dryer.

Apparatus and method for a dryer

An asphalt plant adapted to use RAP to produce asphalt. The preferred asphalt plant comprises a bin that is adapted to store the RAP, a heat source that is adapted to supply heat, a dryer that is adapted to dry the RAP, a mixer that is adapted the mix the RAP and a means for conveying the RAP from the bin to the dryer. The preferred asphalt plant uses substantially only the RAP to produce asphalt. A method for producing asphalt from RAP comprising providing an asphalt plant adapted to use the RAP to produce asphalt. The preferred method further comprises conveying the RAP from the bin to the dryer, drying the RAP, and mixing the RAP.

Apparatus and method for an asphalt plant

A system for controlling the production of an asphalt mix. The preferred system comprises an asphaltic material source, an asphaltic material sensor, a liquid asphalt cement source, a liquid asphalt cement meter, and a controller. The asphaltic material sensor communicates the amount of asphaltic material liquid asphalt cement and the amount of asphaltic material moisture contained in the amount of asphaltic material to the controller, the liquid asphalt cement meter communicates the amount of liquid asphalt cement provided by the liquid asphalt cement source to the controller, and the controller controls the amount of asphaltic material provided by the asphaltic material source and the amount of the liquid asphalt cement provided by the liquid asphalt cement source. Apparatus and method for an asphaltic material control system

An assembly for processing green biomass materials from two separate feed sources for use as a fuel pellet includes a drying assembly, a torrefaction assembly and a heating assembly. The drying assembly is adapted to convert the green biomass material obtained from a first source to white biomass material. The torrefaction assembly is adapted to convert green biomass material obtained from a second source to torrefied biomass material. The heating assembly provides heat for both the drying assembly and the torrefaction assembly.

A dryer performance optimization system comprising a dryer having an inner wall and being adapted to rotate at variable speeds and a variable frequency drive being adapted to vary the rotational speed of the dryer. The preferred system also comprises a baghouse having an inlet end being adapted to receive exhaust gas from the dryer and an outlet end and a controller being adapted to control the temperature of the exhaust gas from the dryer. A method for controlling the temperature of exhaust gas in a baghouse comprising providing a dryer performance optimization system as described herein and varying the temperature of the exhaust gas from the dryer by varying the rotational speed of the dryer.
