An optical fiber assembly has a first ferrule assembly and a second ferrule assembly. Each ferrule assembly has a ferrule body, a plurality of optical fiber receiving bores, and an array of optical elements. One of array of optical elements has a plurality of data lens elements and a cross-focusing indicator lens element. Another of the array of optical elements has a plurality of data lens elements and a mirror system configured to reflect light from the indicator lens element. Upon mating the first and second ferrule assemblies, light from the indicator lens element is primarily reflected back to an output lens element by the mirror system. Upon only partially mating the first and second ferrule assemblies, light from the indicator lens element is not primarily reflected back by the mirror system to the output lens element.

Lensed optical fiber connector with feedback mirror assembly

A multi-tiered optical assembly includes a ferrule body having a mating face, a rear face, and a pair of spaced apart sidewalls, with the mating face, the rear face, and the sidewalls defining an opening. The ferrule body further includes a first support level, and a second support level, with the second support level being vertically spaced from the first support level. First and second flexible optical waveguide members each include at least one waveguide. The first waveguide member is disposed at the first support level and extends between the mating face and the rear face, and the second waveguide member is disposed at the second support level and extends between the mating face and the rear face.

Waveguide alignment structure

A waveguide support and reflector member is provided for optically connecting a first optical component having at least one optical waveguide including an optical axis with a second optical component. The waveguide support and reflector member includes a body having a waveguide retention section and a reflector section. The waveguide retention section is configured to support the first optical component and defines an optical plane along which each optical waveguide is disposed upon positioning the optical component at the waveguide retention section. The reflector section has an optical reflector surface aligned with the optical plane and is configured to optically connect the at least one optical waveguide with the second optical component. An optical assembly incorporating a waveguide support and reflector member and a sheet metal blank for forming a waveguide support and reflector member are also provided. An in-line waveguide support and alignment member is further provided.

Optical coupling assembly

An apparatus for coupling an optical fiber embedded within a member to a waveguide is disclosed. The embedded optical fiber has a core and a cladding surrounding the core. A block includes an engagement surface for positioning adjacent the member to facilitate removal of a portion of the cladding surrounding the core of the embedded optical fiber, a monitoring region adjacent which a portion of a waveguide is positioned, and a waveguide having a first section positioned at the monitoring region and a second section configured to be connected to an optical measuring element for measuring a transmission through passing through the waveguide.

Optical fiber tapping device

An optical fiber assembly includes a ferrule and a plurality of optical fibers. Each optical fiber has an end portion positioned generally adjacent a front face of the ferrule. The end portion of each optical fiber has an end face for engaging a mating optical component and an enlarged portion with at least a portion thereof engaging the ferrule generally adjacent the front face of the ferrule. A method of fabricating an optical fiber assembly is also disclosed.

Optical fiber assembly

An optical fiber assembly comprises an optical fiber having a forward end, a ferrule supporting the optical fiber, a beam expanding element aligned with the forward end of the optical fiber, and a thermal expansion compensation element adjacent the optical fiber to compensate for thermal expansion differences between the optical fiber and the ferrule.

Wide temperature range optical fiber connector with thermal expansion compensation

An optical fiber assembly includes a ferrule body with a plurality of optical fibers and an end of each optical fiber positioned adjacent the front face of the ferrule body. A beam-expanding element is positioned adjacent the front face of the ferrule body including a lens array aligned with the optical fibers. The lens array is spaced from the optical fibers by a predetermined distance to form a gap with an index-matched medium within the gap. A method of manufacturing the optical fiber assembly is also provided.

Multi-fiber ferrule with a lens plate

An optical fiber assembly includes a housing with a mating face, a ferrule having a plurality of optical fibers, and a beam expanding element generally aligned with each optical fiber. A cover is slidably mounted on the housing adjacent the mating face. One of the housing and the cover includes a retention member. Another of the housing and the cover includes a guide and retention member. The guide and retention member interacts with the retention member to retain the cover to the housing and permit sliding movement of the housing relative to the cover. An assembly of connectors, a method of mating and a tool for mating are also provided.

Connector with interface protection

An embedded optical fiber termination device includes a fiber holder with an inner bore and an outer surface. The inner bore is configured to receive a length of optical fiber therein. A removable armature is positioned about a portion of the outer surface of the fiber holder and is removably positioned around a portion of the fiber holder. A composite structure and a method of using the embedded device are also provided.

Embedded optical fiber termination device

An assembly includes a first cable assembly with a first housing having a first mating face and a retention member. A first ferrule has a plurality of first optical fibers positioned therein. A first beam expanding element is generally aligned with each first optical fiber, and each first beam expanding element expands an optical beam generally to a beam diameter. A second cable assembly including a second housing with a second mating face. A second ferrule has a plurality of second optical fibers positioned therein. A second beam expanding element is generally aligned with each second optical fiber, and each second beam expanding element expands an optical beam generally to the beam diameter. A second retention member interacts with the first retention member to retain the first cable assembly to the second cable assembly.

An optical fiber assembly includes a lens block with a plurality of beam expanding and collimating elements. Each beam expanding and collimating element includes a first lens and a second lens. The first lens includes a generally arcuate first lens surface and the second lens includes a generally arcuate second lens surface generally complementary in shape and in contact with the first lens. Each lens has a different index of refraction. An optical fiber assembly may include a housing with a plurality of beam expanding elements. A front portion of each beam expanding element has a generally planar front surface. A compliant layer is positioned on the generally planar front surface of each beam expanding element.

Expanded beam lens assembly

An optical fiber assembly includes a housing with a mating face and a housing axis. A ferrule has a plurality of optical fibers positioned therein. A cover is slidably mounted on the housing adjacent the mating face. A mating guide is positioned at an angle to the housing axis to guide relative movement of the housing from a first operative position at which the housing axis is spaced from the mated axis to a second operative position at which the housing axis is generally aligned with a mated axis of a mating component. An assembly of cable assemblies and a method of mating are also provided.
