A seed drill comprising a frame (1), a beam (14) that is mounted on the frame (1) so as to extend transversely of the direction of forward motion of the drill and that has a plurality of coulters (5) mounted along the beam (14) so as to trail therefrom and engage the ground when in work, the beam (14) comprising a central beam portion (29) and an outer beam portion (30) each side that is pivotally connected to the central beam portion (29) so as to be pivotable upwards to a transport position, characterized in that a strut assembly (39) is provided at each side of the drill between the frame (1) and the respective outer end of the beam (14) so as to be inclined downwards towards said outer end when the outer beam portion (30) is lowered, and pivotal connections (45, 47) being provided between the ends of the strut assembly (39) and the frame (17) and the outer beam portion (30) so that the strut assembly (39) can pivot upwards with the outer beam portion (30) to the transport position, the pivotal connection (4) between the strut assembly (39) and the outer beam portion (30) comprising an elongated member (46) that is pivotally connected to the strut assembly (39) and is slidably received within the outer end of the beam (14) so as to telescope therewith as the outer beam portion (30) and the strut assembly (39) is raised and lowered, and releasable retaining means (53) that serves to hold the elongated member (46) against withdrawal from the outer beam portion (30) when both are lowered.

Seed drill

An agricultural mower having a crop cutting rotor that is rotatable about an upright axis and cuts a strip of crop along a cut edge of the crop so as to emerge laterally from said cut edge, and a crop guide that is located adjacent the periphery of the rotor where it emerges from said cut edge of the crop so as to support the crop upright at said edge while it is cut. The guide thereby avoids leaving any uncut lines of crop caused by the rotor pushing crop aside at a cut edge in the crop where it is unsupported by adjacent standing crop. The invention is particularly applicable to a mower with two or more cutting rotors that are rotatable in the same sense about respective upright axes alongside one another with one rotor offset rearwards relative to the other so as to cut crop adjacent a cut edge left by said other rotor, the crop guide being located adjacent the periphery of said one rotor to support the crop along said edge.

Agricultural mowers

A spreader for fertilizer or similar material has a metering mechanism for said material to vary the rate of spreading. The metering mechanism has two metering members in face-to-face contact defining a metering opening. A hydraulic ram moves the metering members so as to open and close the opening. An adjustable stop within the ram allows the ram's stroke to be changed. This changes the extent to which the ram can open the opening so that the ram can be supplied with fluid under sufficient pressure to overcome possible corrosion between the metering members.
