A system and procedure for preventing and enhancing healing of Decubiti ulcers on patients, comprising the steps of placing the patient on a web adapted to support the patient, the web having a patient contacting portion and a non-patient contacting portion, the web having an opening through the web, positioned so that the opening surrounds the ulcer and prevents contact of the web with the ulcer, and using a web support system adapted to support the web by attachment only to the non-patient contacting portion, to solely support the web with a patient on it. The procedure may also include a step wherein a rocking device is used that acts through the web support system to selectively tilt the web and thereby to tilt the patient on the patient contact portion of the web, so that the pressure between the patient and the web is cyclically altered.

Decubiti ulcer system

A vending machine designed to increase the flexibility of product storage and distribution therein, allowing specific product capacities to be increased or decreased in small increments without a loss of product selection. In the vending machine, a plurality of substantially vertical partitions define a plurality of vertical adjacent columns for product storage, wherein adjacent product storage columns are separated by a vertical partition. A removable product transfer shelf is placed at a selected vertical position in at least one particular product storage column, such that products below the transfer shelf are vended by actuation of the vending mechanism for that particular product column, while products above the transfer shelf are transferred thereby to an adjacent product column to be vended by the vending machine for the adjacent product column. A transfer gate is positioned adjacent to the product transfer shelf in the vertical partition between the particular product column and the adjacent product column. The transfer gate pivotally opens into the adjacent product column after the level of products therein falls below the gate to allow it to open. Thereafter, the product transfer shelf transfers products through the open transfer gate from the particular product column to the adjacent product column.

Vending machine with improved flexibility of product distribution

A wheelchair with relatively large diameter wheels on each side of the chair frame and two smaller wheels in front carries one or more continuous traction belts beneath the seat and/or the back of the chair in retracted position when the chair is used on a flat surface. The large wheels are each attached to the frame by a lever controlled mechanism manipulated by the operator to raise the large wheels, lowering the seat and tilting the chair backward so that the chair rides on the continuous traction belts. This action is taken at a steep incline or at steps to place the operator in a safe, comfortable position with lowered center of gravity for ascending or descending the steps. Means such as an electric motor is provided for driving the traction belts to carry the operator safely up or down the incline or steps.
