In one embodiment, the method includes determining one or more nodes associated with a treatment of a query; generating one or more stimuli associated with the treatment of the query wherein the or each stimulus are likely to perturb one or more resources within a system; measuring data at the or each node relating to the resources to determine the effect of the or each stimuli at the or each node; identifying one or more pairs of nodes which have a correlation in the measured data; transforming the correlation into a causal relationships where the cause is a measuring device measuring the response and the consequences are the other correlated measuring devices; generating a list of causal relationships; and combining different causal relationships into a causal model so that a chain of causal propagations can be built.

Determining performance in a distributed application or system

An apparatus () manages resources of a resource-controlled system (), e.g. data processing resources in a data processing system. The resource-controlled system () has resource-elasticity, namely it may operate in several states involving different amounts of system resources. The resource management apparatus () may select a modification action having at least one resource variation parameter. The resource variation parameter represents a resource quantity to be added or removed in the resource-controlled system (). The apparatus () may update a value function of an adaptive learning agent () as a function of performance metrics () measured after the resources of the resource-controlled system have been modified by effecting the modification action. Responsive to a safety criterion not being fulfilled, a finer resource variation parameter may be substituted.

The control application transforms the multimedia object into a transformed multimedia object (OMt) based on the control data (DonC) associated with the multimedia object and the transformation parameters (ParT) associated with the call, the transformed multimedia object comprising at least one transformed segment such that the transformed multimedia object presents less information than the multimedia object and is capable of undergoing a basic operation carried out by the execution environment.

Controlling the processing of a multimedia object by a software application

To optimize road traffic within an application server (SA) providing itineraries recommended to users connected to said application server from communication terminals (TC), each recommended itinerary being provided to a user based on a profile of the user containing the departure date or arrival date, the departure location and the arrival location, the application server compares the itineraries recommended to users whose indicated departure date belongs to a given interval time, produces a set of users whose corresponding recommended itineraries have at least one itinerary segment of given length in common, and modifies an itinerary recommended to at least one user who belongs to said set of users.

The method for privacy protection includes receiving user consumption data associated with one or more end users where the user consumption data comprises at least a slice of interest profile and associated interest group id of the slice of interest profile; and where the user consumption data is received through a network anonymization layer. The method may further include routing the user consumption data to an interest group aggregator node from amongst a plurality of intermediary nodes based on distributed hash table routing mechanism, and wherein the interest group aggregator node is associated with the interest group id present in the user consumption data.

Methods and systems for privacy protection of network end users including profile slicing

According to an implementation of the present subject matter, apparatus and methods for privacy protected clustering of user interest profiles are described. The method includes generating at least one interest profile segment based on an interest profile of an end user (). Further, semantic terms corresponding to the at least one interest profile segment are obtained based on interaction with a semantic metadata database coupled to a user device of the end user (), wherein the semantic terms are obtained from amongst one or more semantic terms provided in the semantic metadata database. Each of the at least one interest profile segment are subsequently transformed into at least one semantic representation (). Further, a cluster identifier is assigned to the at least one interest profile segment based on the at least one semantic representation, wherein the cluster identifiers are generated using locality sensitive hashing (LSH) technique ().

Method and apparatus for privacy protected clustering of user interest profiles

A device (D) is intended for determining potential interests of users (U-U) that are clients of at least one network operator, each user being associated to a profile defining at least his interests. This device (D) comprises i) a tracking means (TM) arranged for analyzing the profile of at least one user (U) to determine new real interest(s) it contains and for storing an identifier representative of a determined new real interest of this user (U) in correspondence with a first date at which it has been considered as a new real interest into his profile, and ii) a recommendation means (RM) arranged for analyzing the first dates of a user (U) to determine a time ordered sequence of interests preceding a determined new real interest, and for comparing this determined user interest sequence to at least one other sequence of interests of at least one other user (U) to predict at least one potential future interest for this user (U), to be introduced into his profile.

An event detection apparatus for a cellular communication system comprises a video upload processor () which receives video upload activity indications. Each video upload activity indication comprises an indication of a video upload from a remote station of the cellular communication system as well as a remote station location indication for the remote station from which a video clip is uploaded. An event processor () generates an event indication in response to the video upload activity indications meeting a criterion where the event indication comprises an event location indication generated in response to the remote station location indications. The event detection criterion may specifically be that more than a given number of video upload activity indications are indicative of video uploads within a given time interval and geographic area. The invention may allow improved event detection.
