An object of the present disclosure is to provide a method for manufacturing a fuel cell that ensures developing a high adhesive strength to a separator. One aspect of an embodiment is a method for manufacturing a fuel cell where a pair of separators are mutually bonded with a sealing member. The sealing member includes a thermoplastic resin containing a crystalline polymer as an adhesive layer. The method for manufacturing the fuel cell includes: preparing a stack structure in which the sealing member is disposed between the pair of separators; heating the stack structure at a melting point or higher of the thermoplastic resin; after the heating, holding the stack structure in a temperature range of &#xb1;10&#xb0; C. of a crystallization temperature of the thermoplastic resin to promote a crystallization of the thermoplastic resin; and after the holding, further cooling the stack structure.

A fuel cell comprises a membrane electrode assembly configured such that electrode catalyst layers are formed on respective surfaces of an electrolyte membrane; gas diffusion layers placed on respective surfaces of the membrane electrode assembly; and a frame placed around periphery of the membrane electrode assembly. The membrane electrode assembly has a protruding portion that is configured by protruding outside of the gas diffusion layer in a state that the membrane electrode assembly is combined with the gas diffusion layers. The frame has an engagement portion that is configured to engage with the protruding portion. An adhesive layer is formed from an ultraviolet curable adhesive between the protruding portion and the engagement portion.

Each of the second grooves has at least one shallower groove section formed to have a less depth from the second surface than depth of a remaining groove section and provided to form a communication flow channel on the first surface side, which is arranged to communicate between two flow path spaces for the first fluid that are adjacent to each other across the shallower groove section.

Disclosed is a fuel cell stack which is able to prevent corrosion from occurring in a separator. The fuel cell stack formed by arranging a terminal on both ends of a cell stacked body in which a plurality of cells including a membrane electrode assembly and separators interposing the membrane electrode assembly therebetween is stacked, includes a rust preventive plate which is arranged between a metal separator and a positive electrode terminal on a high potential side of the cell stacked body, and includes a material more noble than that of the separator in the surface.

A uniform and dense resin coat is formed on a surface of a peripheral region of a fuel cell separator. However, the formed resin coat may contain defects (holes). With the present invention, however, any such defects in the resin coat are coated with a metal coat. That is, when depositing metal in complex ions on the fuel cell separator by an electrodeposition process, the metal is adhered not only to a power generation region but also to a portion where the surface (separator base material surface) is exposed by the defects of the resin coat, thereby forming the metal coat on the defects. Thus, it is possible to improve the corrosion resistance of the fuel cell separator as compared to the case that the surface of the separator base material is exposed at the portions of the defects of the resin coat.

Fuel cell separator manufacturing method and fuel cell separator

A method of manufacturing a fuel cell separator is provided such that the corrosion resistance can be improved. A method of manufacturing a fuel cell separator that separates adjacent cells of a fuel cell includes subjecting a separator substrate composed of a metal material to gold strike plating, thereby forming a first gold plating layer with a thickness of 10 to 200 nm. Further, thick gold plating is performed on top of the first gold plating layer formed by gold strike plating, thereby forming a second gold plating layer. A fuel cell separator manufactured by the method and a fuel cell including the fuel cell separator are also provided.
