A receiver includes a reception antenna, a reception unit, and a demodulation unit. The reception unit sequentially receives modulated signals resulting from spread spectrum via the reception antenna. The demodulation unit demodulate a first signal received by the reception unit by performing despreading using a short-period spreading code, the first signal including information for identifying a long-period spreading code. The demodulation unit identifies the long-period spreading code on the basis of the information obtained from the first signal. The demodulation unit then demodulates a second signal received by the reception unit after the first signal by performing despreading using the long-period spreading code.

A cell loss counter increments its count value in response to each cell that is discarded from the buffer within the time window. A decision circuit produces a low quality signal when the count value of the cell loss counter is greater than a threshold value.

An automatic money receiving and disbursing machine having the functions of receiving money from customers and disbursing money to customers from a box disposed within the machine. The machine is provided with a circulation path in communication with a transacting section to receive or disburse the notes therethrough. Another portion of the circulation path is in communication with a note receiving box. A discrimination section is provided in the circulation path to discriminate the notes received or the notes disbursed. In the disbursing mode, when an abnormal note is found by discrimination, all the notes are discriminated again by passing the notes through the discrimination section via the circulation path.

An automatic money receiving and disbursing machine has two dealing openings through one of which the notes are received in the machine or disbursed from the machine. Two accumulating sections are provided between two dealing openings on a delivery section. These accumulating sections are used to temporarily store the notes. A paper sheet accumulator assembly for receiving paper sheets to accumulate the same to be ready for collective dispensation. The paper sheet accumulator assembly includes a plurality of paddle wheels each having a plurality of paddles overlapping each other. Paper sheets fed by a conveyer between the paddles as the paddle wheels rotate. A guide belt assembly is provided adjacent to the paddle wheels to restrain the free movement of the trailing ends of the paper sheets and to prevent the paper sheets from slipping out the paddle wheels. The guide belt assembly is driven to move at a speed substantially equal to the circumferential speed of the trailing free ends of the paddles so as to facilitate smooth travel of the paper sheets carried by the paddle wheels. The paper sheet accumulator assembly further includes a scraper plate disposed below the paddle wheels for scraping the paper sheets away from the paddle wheels, and a carrier plate for receiving the paper sheets scraped from the paddle wheels.
