A liquid crystal display device of one aspect of the present invention includes a liquid crystal display unit that includes a liquid crystal layer which exhibits vertical alignment and plural picture elements, and a control unit that controls a voltage which is supplied to the liquid crystal display unit. The control unit performs display by sequentially applying a first voltage that corresponds to a larger gradation number than an original gradation number and a second voltage that corresponds to zero gradation respectively in plural subframe periods that result from division of one frame period of an image signal in a case where the original gradation number of the input image signal is a low gradation number that is less than a prescribed threshold value, performs display by applying the second voltage in the one frame period in a case where the original gradation number is the zero gradation, and performs display by applying a third voltage that corresponds to the original gradation number in the one frame period in a case where the original gradation number is a high gradation number that is equivalent to or more than the threshold value.

Liquid crystal display device reducing color shift

A lighting device includes a light source array, a wavelength converting member, and a light guide plate. The light source array includes light sources configured to emit primary light rays. The wavelength converting member includes a wavelength converting portion, a holding portion, and non-wavelength converting portions. The wavelength converting portion contains phosphors configured to emit secondary light rays when excited by the primary light rays. The wavelength converting member is disposed between the light guide plate and the light source array. The light guide plate includes a light entering surface, a light exiting surface, an opposite surface that is on an opposite side from the light exiting surface, and a light reflecting and scattering pattern. The light reflecting and scattering pattern includes complementary color dots formed in sections of the opposite surface on non-wavelength converting portion sides. The complementary color dots absorb the primary light rays.

Lighting device, display device, and television device

A lighting unite according to an embodiment includes a light source, a light guide plate, and a wavelength converting member. The light source is configured to emit primary light rays. The light guide plate includes a light entering surface through which the primary light rays enter, a light exiting surface through which the primary light rays exit, and a light reflecting and scattering pattern. The light reflecting and scattering pattern includes complementary color dots formed in edge areas of the opposite surface and white dots formed inner than the complementary color dots. The complementary color dots absorb primary light rays and exhibit a color that makes a complementary color pair with a reference color exhibited by the primary light rays. The white dots exhibit white color. The wavelength converting member covers the light exiting surface and passes some of the primary light rays to emit planar light.
