An engine starting control apparatus is basically provided with a motor control section, a valve timing control section and a start control section. The motor control section is configured to operate an electric motor to crank an engine with an output of the electric motor being adjustable. The valve timing control section is configured to operate a variable valve operating mechanism when the engine is started to change at least a close timing of an intake valve of the engine from an initial timing to a start timing such that the start timing is set closer to an intake bottom dead center during a single engine start as compared to the initial timing. The start control section is configured to adjust the output of the electric motor as the close timing of the intake valve changes from the initial timing to the start timing during the single engine start.

Engine starting control apparatus

An engine starting control apparatus is basically provided with a motor control section, a valve timing control section and a start control section. The motor control section is configured to operate an electric motor to crank an engine with an output of the electric motor being adjustable. The valve timing control section is configured to operate a variable valve operating mechanism when the engine is started to change at least a close timing of an intake valve of the engine from an initial timing corresponding to a state in which the engine is stopped to a start timing for starting the engine. The start control section is configured to adjust the output of the electric motor as the close timing of the intake valve changes from the initial timing to the start timing.

A sensor which detects whether or not an engine output shaft and a vehicle drive shaft are in a predetermined connection state, is subjected to a fault determination when a predetermined condition holds. When the engine output shaft and vehicle drive shaft are constantly in this connection state from when the engine starts to when the above condition comes to hold, it is determined that a fault has occurred in the sensor. It is also determined whether or not the vehicle is running when the engine starts, and when the vehicle is running when the engine starts, fault determination is prohibited so as to avoid incorrect results.

A secondary air supply apparatus for an internal combustion engine is provided with an air-fuel ratio sensor disposed upstream of an catalytic converter in an exhaust passage. An outlet port of a secondary air supply conduit is formed upstream of and in the vicinity of the air-fuel ratio sensor. Air discharged from an air pump is supplied to the exhaust passage through the secondary air supply conduit. A control unit diagnoses as to whether or not the air-fuel ratio sensor is activated by checking as to whether a detection signal of the air-fuel ratio sensor is out of a predetermined range or not. Then, the control unit diagnoses as to whether the supply of the secondary air is normal or not on the basis of the detection signal of the air-fuel ratio sensor. Therefore, the diagnosis of the supply of the secondary air is correctly executed.

Secondary air supplying apparatus for internal combustion engine

A vehicle engine temperature is detected, and a radiator fan fault warning is given so as to prevent engine overheating when this temperature rises to or above a preset determining value under a predetermined test conditions. Preferably, it is determined that the radiator fan has a fault when a temperature equal to or above this determining value holds for at least a predetermined time. More preferably, this determining value is set low while the vehicle is in motion. By providing these supplementary conditions, incorrect diagnosis of a fault in the radiator fan is prevented.

A mold for manufacturing a skin covered foamed plastic article incorporating a hole, with which it is possible to place the skin cover at a desired position despite of the presence of the hole, without spoiling or damaging the skin cover, such that the skin covered foamed plastic article of a desired shape without any deficiencies such as wrinkles and dents can easily be manufactured. The mold includes stopper means for fastening the trim ends attached to the edges of the skin cover, located between the upper mold and lower mold separately from a space into which a liquid foam resin is to be poured, each of the stopper means having a slit through which one trim end is inserted, and a top face portion to which both ends of the trim end are to be hooked.

A mold assembly for producing a skin-covered foamed plastic article is disclosed, which includes a lower mold having a cavity formed therein, the lower mold having a first skirt portion which extends around a mouth of the lower mold; an upper mold which is to be put on the lower mold to close the cavity, the upper mold having a second skirt portion which is mated with the first skirt portion of the lower mold when these two molds are properly coupled; and a pair of holding plates which are detachably connected through fasteners to spaced portions of the lower mold, each holding plate including a first portion which is detachably connected to the first skirt portion and a second portion which extends over a given wall portion of the cavity of the lower mold, whereby when a bag-shaped outer skin member is properly set in the cavity, the holding plates press given portions of the outer skin member against the inner wall of the cavity.
