Provided are an organic electroluminescent device having better performances in luminous efficiency, device life and driving voltage, a display unit equipped with the same and a lighting instrument equipped with the same. The organic electroluminescent device comprises an electron transport layer containing a specific arylamine-substituted coumarin compound.

The objectives of this invention are to extend the range of choosing materials to use in the preparation of photopolymerizable compositions by providing a novel organic compound which absorbs a visible light; or to provide an orgamc material which is useful as host compound in organic electroluminescent devices, as well as its uses: The objectives are attainable by providing an aromatic tertiary amine compound bearing within the same molecule one or more specific atomic groups, a luminescent agent directed to use in organic electroluminescent devices comprising it, and an organic electroluminescent device using such amine compound, as well as its uses.

Coumarin compound

This invention has an objective to improve durability at elevated temperature in organic electroluminescent devices using coumarin derivatives as dopant in a luminescent layer. This invention attains the above objective by providing in the organic electroluminescent devices formed by laminating an anode, a hole injection layer, a hole transportation layer, a luminescent layer, an electron transportation layer and a cathode in this order, the luminescent layer which comprises as dopant the green light-emitting coumarin derivative and hole- and electron-transporting substances as host; said coumarin derivative consisting of a plurality of coumarin groups bound to an aromatic ring, heterocycle, or any combination thereof, and exhibiting a glass transition point of 150&#xb0; C. or higher or a melting point of 297&#xb0; C. or higher.

Organic electroluminescent device

4-Cyanocoumarin derivatives which have a distinct sensitivity to visible light, distinct luminescent ability, and satisfactory applicability for photochemical polymerization, dye lasers, and organic electroluminescent elements. Since most of the derivatives have a fluorescent maximum wavelength of 600 to 650 nm, particularly, 610 to 630 nm, they are extremely useful as luminescent agents for organic EL elements which emit visible light in a red-color region, and can be quite useful as luminescent agents in organic EL elements and laser-active substances in dye lasers, as well as luminous bodies as lighting sources for lighting devices, and information displays for visually displaying information.

4-cyanocoumarin derivatives and uses thereof

An organic electroluminescent (EL) device which uses, as a luminescence-assisting agent, a novel coumarin derivative with a specific structure. The coumarin derivative effectively accelerates in such an organic EL device the transfer of excited energy in a host compound to a guest compound. Thus, the coumarin derivative affords the organic EL device which is superior in a color purity, luminescent efficiency and life expectancy when used in combination with appropriate host and guest compounds.

Organic electroluminescent element

An organic electroluminescent (EL) device which contains a novel coumarin derivative composed of a coumarin ring, a naphthalene ring with one or more hydrocarbon groups, and a five-membered hetero ring condensed with the naphthalene ring so as to give an electronic resonance through the coumarin and naphthalene rings. The coumarin derivative emits a visible luminescence with a satisfactory color purity, which consistently continues over a long period of time even at an elevated temperature when used in such an organic device.

Organic electroluminescence device

Disclosed are pyran derivatives, which have distinctive sensitivity to visible light and distinctive luminous ability. The derivatives are useful in photopolymerization, electroluminescence, and dye lasers, and are obtainable through a step of reacting a compound having a 4-cyanomethylene-2-methyl-4H-pyran skeleton with a compound having a 3-formylcoumarin skeleton.
