A printing blanket according to the present invention is provided with a non-stretchable layer formed by arranging hollow yarn in a predetermined direction inside a surface printing layer constituting an elastomer. The printing blanket is and formed in a seamless cylindrical shape in the circumferential direction, is superior in productivity because it has a simpler structure than that of an air-type printing blanket, and has excellent compression properties similar to those of the air-type printing blanket.

A material for making marine structure comprises a rubber composition. The rubber composition contains a metal salt of .alpha., .beta.-unsaturated fatty acid and is vulcanized in a mold into a predetermined configuration. The strength of the rubber composition is anisotropic and in particular its elastic modulus is anisotropic. The direction in which the strength of the rubber composition is high is set in the direction in which stress is applied by waves. Thus, the marine-structural material is resistant to waves and tide. The rubber composition contains short fibers which are oriented in a certain direction to increase the anisotropy of the rubber composition.

The present invention relates to an earthquake-proofing device wherein a superstructure is placed and supported for horizontal movement on a foundation structure so as to increase the natural vibration period of the superstructure, thereby protecting the superstructure against earthquake energy and traffic vibration. More particularly, the outer periphery of an elastic body, visco-elastic body or viscous body which hardly exhibits rigidity by itself is surrounded by a restrainer which restrains it from bulging outward, thereby enabling the body to develop high vertical rigidity while allowing it to retain horizontal deformability, the body being used as a load carrier. The restrainer and/or load carrier absorbs vibration energy by frictional damping action. According to this construction, besides the above-described basic performance essential to earthquake-proofing devices, there are the following advantages: (1) The points of action of the restoring force and damping force coincide with each other, so that the structure is protected against unnecessary torsional vibration; (2) the range of selection of materials for the load carrier is wide, so that characteristics can be designed in a wide range as desired; and (3). The initial shear rigidity at the start of vibration is so low that the structure can also be protected against slight vibration.

Earthquake-proofing device of peripherally restraining type

An elastically deformable fender comprising an impact receiving section having a predetermined thickness and a top surface being formed flat and forming a contact surface with a broadside, a pair of supporting sections extending from the reverse side of the impact receiving section mentioned above so as to diverge away from each other in an unfolded fan fashion and formed integrally with the impact receiving section, and fitting sections expanding outwardly from the ends of the supporting sections in parallel to the contact surface aforementioned. The thickness of the impact receiving section mentioned above is formed thick so as to protrude distinctly from the supporting sections and the width is formed smaller than the span between the heels of the supporting sections. Furthermore, between the supporting sections on the reverse side of the impact receiving section a hollow portion is formed lengthwise for preventing the impact receiving section from curving when the contact load of a ship is applied.
