A driving method of a plasma display device, the plasma display device having a plurality of first and second electrodes disposed adjacent to each other and a plurality of third electrodes disposed so as to intersect with the first and second electrodes, the driving method includes providing a reset period, an address period and a sustain discharge period for driving of the plasma display device, applying to the second electrode in the reset period a voltage with a waveform in which an applied voltage value increases with time, shortening a sustain time of achieved potential of the voltage with the waveform when a first display ratio of an input video signal is low as compared with a second display ratio which is higher than the first display ratio.

Plasma display device and driving method thereof

A problem is to be solved that there is to be provided a plasma display device capable of generating driving signals with less variation in delay time and without carrying out any phase adjustment. There is provided a plasma display device including; a first display electrode; a second display electrode adapted to cause a discharge to occur between the first display electrode and the second display electrode; a first display electrode drive circuit for applying a discharge voltage to the first display electrode; and a second display electrode drive circuit for applying a discharge voltage to the second display electrode. The first display electrode drive circuit has a first output element for supplying a first electric potential to the first display electrode in accordance with a first input signal which is inputted by using a transformer.

Plasma display device and capacitive load driving circuit

A plasma display apparatus includes a display panel in which display cells are constituted at least by a set of electrodes including first electrodes extending in a first direction, second electrodes extending in the first direction, and third electrodes extending in a second direction substantially perpendicular to the first direction, a first drive circuit configured to drive the first electrodes, a second drive circuit configured to drive the second electrodes, a third drive circuit configured to drive the third electrodes in conjunction with successive scanning of the first electrodes, and a power-supply circuit configured to generate a DC voltage based on an AC voltage and to supply the DC voltage to the first drive circuit and the second drive circuit, wherein the power-supply circuit and a given drive circuit that is one of the first drive circuit and the second drive circuit are implemented on a single print circuit board.

Plasma display apparatus with improvement in supply of sustain voltage

In conventional plasma display devices, reset by obtuse waves has been performed since discharge intensity becomes higher and background light emission is increased when reset by rectangular waves is performed. However, further improvement of the contrast to improve the image quality has been demanded. The present invention provides a driving method of a plasma display device using obtuse-wave reset in which sustain time of an achieved potential of the obtuse-wave reset is controlled in accordance with a display ratio of a video signal.

A semiconductor integrated circuit capable of reducing the influence of the difference in ambient temperature etc. and realizing a stable phase adjustment circuit has been disclosed. The semiconductor integrated circuit comprises a delay time adjustment circuit for delaying the rising edge or the falling edge of an input signal and changing the amount of delay, a comparison circuit for comparing an output signal from the delay time adjustment circuit with a predetermined voltage, a high-level shift circuit for shifting an output signal from the comparison circuit into a signal on the basis of an output reference voltage, and an output amplifier circuit for amplifying an output signal from the high-level shift circuit and outputting a signal for driving the semiconductor device, wherein the delay time adjustment circuit, the comparison circuit, the high-level shift circuit, and the output amplifier circuit are formed on a single chip.

Semiconductor integrated circuit, drive circuit, and plasma display apparatus

A first and a second signal line respectively supplying a first potential and a second potential to one end of a capacitive load, a waveform output circuit whose input terminal is connected to a supply line supplying a third potential, whose output terminal is connected to the first or the second signal line, and whose control terminal is connected to a waveform generating circuit, and a reactive current preventing switch connected between the control terminal and the output terminal or the input terminal of the waveform output circuit are provided. During a period when a reactive current is prevented from flowing, the reactive current preventing switch is bought into conduction to make a potential difference between the control terminal and the output terminal of the waveform output circuit smaller so that the waveform output circuit cannot be operated, which prevents the reactive current from flowing, leading to an improvement in the reliability of a driving circuit.

Driving circuit, driving method, and plasma display device

A first signal line for supplying a potential to one terminal of a capacitive load, a first switch element for supplying a first potential to the first signal line, a first drive circuit for driving the first switch element, and a second signal line for supplying a second potential different from the aforesaid first potential to the one terminal of the capacitive load are included. A first capacitor is capable of supplying a lower potential than the first and the third potentials to the first signal line. A coil circuit is connected between the first signal line or the second signal line and a supply line for supplying the third potential. A floating power supply circuit supplies power supply voltage with a potential of the first signal line as a reference to the first drive circuit.

A low-cost capacitive load drive circuit, in which a reference voltage, a first voltage, and a second voltage are supplied to a capacitive load, and a plasma display apparatus using it, have been disclosed. In a plasma display device having a reduced discharge-current-induced voltage fluctuation and an expanded drive margin and being successful in preventing the display characteristics from being degraded, a Y-electrode drive circuit and an X-electrode drive circuit for supplying a drive voltage to the capacitance which represents a display cell are configured using parallel circuits in which first switching elements having a high-speed-switching performance and second switching elements having a low-saturation-voltage performance are connected in parallel, so that the second switching elements having the low-saturation-voltage performance are turned on at least during a period that discharge current flows therebetween.

A PDP apparatus of low power consumption and without erroneous malfunctions is equipped with a sustaining circuit that prevents an on/off timing shift and deterioration of a sustaining pulse produced thereby. Phase adjusting circuits, which adjust the timing of the changing edge of the sustaining pulse, are provided for the sustaining circuit; the power recovery circuit is of improved efficiency; and power consumption is reduced by optimizing the timing of a changing edge of the sustaining pulse The circuit devices used in the sustaining circuits are classified according to delay times and sets of the circuit devices are selected so that the timing of a changing edge of the sustaining pulse falls within a predetermined allowance, and the selected sets of the circuit devices are set to the PDP.

Capacitive load driving circuit for driving capacitive loads such as pixels in plasma display panel, and plasma display apparatus

A plasma display apparatus, in which the supply of a sustain pulse can be controlled for each display line and power consumption can be reduced by terminating the supply of the sustain pulse to the display line in the non-display area, has been disclosed. In this plasma display apparatus, a switch circuit is provided respectively on each wiring path of the sustain pulse to each electrode of a first electrode (X electrode) and a second electrode (Y electrode) and it is possible to control whether or not to supply the sustain pulse for each electrode.
