A settings information generation device, for reducing the number of settings steps pertaining to a device in a superordinate device that communicates with a slave device to which the device is connected, includes: a selection unit for accepting a selection of a device to be connected; an acquisition unit for acquiring operational settings information including the input/output data length of the selected device; and a generation unit for generating, on the basis of the operational settings information, superordinate device settings information for setting a storage region for storing data exchanged with the device by a controller via a device management unit.

Problems such as an operation stop of a controller caused by leaving out a mismatch requiring a change can be prevented. When a setting value is changed in a unit operation setting, an allocation management part specifies a storage capacity required for a storage of input data based on the changed setting value, and judges whether a mismatch occurs in an allocation state between the input data and a storage area specified in an I/O allocation setting.

I/O management apparatus

The convenience of a design of a system is improved by making it easier to verify consumed electric power when designing and constructing the system. An operation screen is displayed upon execution of on a PC for supporting the design of a control system. The configuration of a control system can be controlled in an editing region, and unit images representing an I/O unit are connected in order to a unit image representing a communication coupler. A power supply unit can be inserted into this configuration. An icon indicates a shortage of electric power to the units downstream of the unit indicated by a selected image. When a user mouses the pointer over the icon, the detailed meaning of the icon is displayed in a message. The designer is thus capable of easily verifying the position at which a power source supply unit should be added.
