By making a cathode substrate function as a cathode and applying a voltage to the cathode and an anode, an electron emission element emits an electron from an electron source provided on the cathode substrate, and irradiates the electron onto an electron irradiation surface formed on the anode surface. The electron source is thread-type and provided on the cathode substrate. A deflecting voltage generates the electric field around the electron source. The electron source including a charge receives a power from the generated electric field to curve. Therefore, an irradiation position of the electron moves on the electron irradiation surface. Since it becomes unnecessary to move the electron irradiation surface and the electron source, a configuration of the electron emission element or an apparatus including the electron emission element is not complicated, and can be miniaturized and simple. Further, since the electron source curves, a tip of the electron source and the electron irradiation surface can be close, and a size of a beam spot at the irradiation position can be maintained constant. Therefore, since a mechanism for correcting the size of the beam spot is unnecessary, the configuration of the electron emission element or the apparatus including the electron emission element can be much simpler.

Recording medium

An optical recording medium having at least a pair of recording films which have a predetermined light absorption distribution and have steep absorption end slopes which are closer to each other. The difference between the wavelengths of recording or reproduction lights for these two recording films may be close to about 50 nm. A common optical system may be used for recording or reproduction operation for the two recording films, whereby the optical system may be simplified.

A Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) film forming apparatus has a packing unit for orientating and packing a sample which is a composition for forming a monomolecular film developed on a subphase stored in a first tank, a sampling unit for sampling the orientated and packed monomolecular film on a substrate, and an outer casing enclosing the packing unit and sampling unit. The packing unit has a second tank in which a circulating solution is stored and the first tank is disposed in the solution. A temperature of the circulating solution in the second tank is controlled by a first controller and a temperature of atmosphere enclosed by the casing is controlled by a second controller. The first and second controllers are synchronously operated. The substrate is disposed above the subphase in a vertical attitude. The sampling unit includes a pressure detector for detecting a pressure of the packed monomolecular film and the packing unit includes a barrier driving means which is operatively connected to the pressure detector so that the movement of the barrier stops when a detected pressure reaches a predetermined value.

Langmuir-Blodgett film forming apparatus

An LB film forming device according to the present invention having a packing control device by which a barrier is moved under the control of the packing control device to compress a sample until the sample spreading over the surface of a subphase liquid provides a predetermined set surface pressure, the absorbance of the thus compressed sample is measured, and thereafter the barrier is moved under the control of the absorbance as desired so as to provide a predetermined set value of the absorbance. Such an LB film forming device may stably provide a film having predetermined film characteristics.
