A mobile apparatus capable of moving while avoiding contact with an object by allowing the object to recognize the behavioral change of the mobile apparatus is provided. The robot and its behavioral state and the object and its behavioral state are recognized as a first spatial element and its behavioral state and a second spatial element and its behavioral state, respectively, in an element space. Based on the recognition result, if the first spatial element may contact the second spatial element in the element space, a shift path is set which is tilted from the previous target path by an angle responsive to the distance between the first spatial element and the second spatial element. With the end point of the shift path as a start point, a path allowing the first spatial element to avoid contact with an expanded second spatial element is set as a new target path.

A mobile apparatus or the like capable of moving or acting while surely preventing contact with an object such as a human being, by avoiding the situation where the object inappropriately changes its behavior for the purposes of preventing contact with the mobile apparatus, is provided. According to the robot of the present invention, a path that can prevent contact with the third spatial element satisfying the requirement regarding the size in the element space, among a plurality of expanded spatial elements arranged around the first spatial element, is set as a target path. This allows the robot to move in accordance with a consistent rule that is modified in response to the width of the clearance between the object and the boundary of the passable region.

A mobile apparatus for moving or acting while avoiding contact with an object, and reducing a change in the behavior of the object. It is determined whether there is a first spatial element that satisfies a contact condition that there is a possibility of contact with a reference spatial element on a discriminant plane including at least part of a representative point trajectory of a robot. If there is a first spatial element that satisfies the contact condition, a second action plan element involving changing the representative point trajectory is assumed, and it is determined whether there is a first spatial element that satisfies the contact condition on a new discriminant plane including at least part of the changed representative point trajectory. If there is no first spatial element that satisfies the contact condition on the new discriminant plane, the assumed new 'second action plan element' is set.
