A floppy disk drive includes a frame having a bottom portion and left and right walls and a casing for covering the frame. The casing includes an upper cover for covering an upper side of the frame and a lower cover for covering a lower side of the frame, in which the upper cover has a top plate and left and right side plates, and the lower cover has a bottom plate and left and right plates. Each of the side walls of the frame is designed so as to have size and height that are partially overlapped with the side plate of the upper cover and the side plate of the lower cover, respectively, at each side of the casing, thereby providing a triplex structure for reinforcing each side of the casing.

In a flexible disk drive for a flexible disk, a main frame defines a receiving portion for receiving the flexible disk. The main frame has a principal surface which faces the receiving portion and extends in a first direction and a second direction perpendicular to the first direction. A carriage assembly is mounted on the main frame and has a magnetic head for accessing the flexible disk. The carriage assembly is movable to carry the magnetic head along the principal surface. An eject base is coupled to the main frame and has a main portion facing the principal surface and side plates opposite to each other in the first direction. Between the main frame and the eject base, an eject plate is placed movable in the second direction for ejecting the flexible disk from the receiving portion. The eject plate has side plates facing the side plates of the eject base in the first direction, respectively. A guiding mechanism is coupled to the side plates of the eject base and to the side plates of the eject plate and guides movement of the eject plate in the second direction.

A front shutter () comprises arm portions () formed at both ends of an upper side of a door member (). While one shaft portion () is formed on one of the arm portions () through a positioning portion (), the other shaft portion () is formed on the other of the arm portions (). The shaft portions () are inserted into holes formed on a cut and raised piece () and a side wall () respectively. The cut and raised piece () and the side wall () rotatably supports the shaft portions (). A gap between the arm portion () and the side wall () is wider because of no positioning portion between the arm portion () and the side wall (). The shutter spring () not only gives force to the front shutter () in a closing direction but also presses the front shutter toward the cut and raised piece () to prevent the shutter from moving along a pivot defined by the shaft portions ().

A flexible disk drive includes a case and a disk holder provided in the case. A flexible disk is mounted on the disk holder. A part of the disk holder abuts against an inner face of the case. Preferably, the part of the disk holder is a tip end portion of the disk holder. The tip end portion of the disk holder is bent in a slanted direction so as to enlarge an inlet of the disk holder for the flexible disk to be inserted.

A flexible disk drive comprises a main frame, a magnetic head, a head assembly supporting the magnetic head so as to move the magnetic head in a tracking direction, and a guide rod fixedly attached onto the main frame by a metal fitting to guide the head assembly in the tracking direction. The main frame is made of a sheet metal and is provided with a recessed portion having a sidewall. The sidewall is faced to an end face of the guide rod with a small space left therebetween so that the recessed portion restricts the movement of the guide rod in the tracking direction.

The mounting structure further comprises a reinforcing plate disposed under the bottom plate of lower frame, at least two parts of the reinforcing plate respectively support one of the bent portion in two of the cantilevered arms located on at least one diagonal line of the lower frame from downward thereof.

A disk table in a magnetic disk drive is disclosed. The disk table comprises a disk table body having an opening, a chucking arm made of an elastic body, where one end of the chucking arm is fixed on a lower face of the disk table body and the other end of the chucking arm is set free, a chucking roller disposed on the other fee end of the chucking arm, where the chucking roller is protruded from an upper face of the disk table through the opening, and a stopper provided on the lower face of the disk table in the vicinity of the free end of the chucking arm, wherein the chucking arm is freely floatable in vertical direction, and the amount of separation of the free end of the chucking arm from the lower face of the disk table body is restricted by stopper when the chucking roller is urged downwards. The restricted amount of displacement of the free end of the chucking arm is set such that the chucking arm would not deform plastically, or such that the chucking roller would not slip off or remove from said opening of the disk table body.

In such magnetic disk drive DD motor 20, the rotor case constituting the rotor is mounted onto the spindle shaft by a bearing portion 25a on the upper side of the frame while formed integrally with the disk table, and the bearing portion is formed integrally with the rotor case, the disk table, and the spindle shaft by molding a resin in the middle of the disk table, the resin having a magnetic powder a mixed therein.

A structure for preventing head judder of a magnetic disk drive is disclosed. The structure comprises an opening provided at front end portion of an upper plate of a head carriage, a gimbal disposed within the opening, a magnetic head hangingly disposed on a central lower face of the gimbal, a pivot spacer disposed between the upper plate and a central upper face of the magnetic head, and at least one pair of adhesive tapes, inner ends of the adhesive tapes are respectively stuck on near central upper face of the gimbal, and the adhesive tapes symmetrically extend towards right and left end of the gimbal.

Structure for preventing head judder of magnetic disk drive

A mounting structure for an I/O (input/output) connector in a magnetic disk drive comprises a frame of the magnetic disk drive including a side wall, an I/O connector mounted on a printed board, and an engagement piece formed within the side wall that obliquely extends downwards and toward the inside of the side wall. The engagement piece is pushed towards the sidewall by side faces of the I/O connector and the printed board facing the inner face of the side wall when the printed board, on which the I/O connector is mounted, is inserted into the frame of the magnetic disk drive. A tip end of the engagement piece contacts a top face of the I/O connector when the printed board, on which the mounted board is mounted, is completely mounted onto the frame of the magnetic disk drive.

A disk holding mechanism for use in a disk apparatus includes a disk holder unit (60) for holding a disk (40) inserted into the disk apparatus. The disk holder unit includes a leaf spring (63) which serves as an urging member for urging a substantial center of the disk downwardly from an upper surface of the disk with the disk held in the disk holder unit. The urging member prevents the disk from vibrating within the disk holder unit and restricts vertical movement of the disk itself even if the disk apparatus is subjected to external shake or shock. Thus, it is possible to constantly maintain stable head touch of a magnetic head to a magnetic disk medium (41) of the disk.
