An idling speed control system is provided in an internal combustion engine which has an intake passage led to cylinders of the engine, a throttle valve installed in the intake passage, a bypass passage bypassing the throttle valve and an air-flow controller installed in the bypass passage for controlling the amount of air flowing in the bypass passage. The system comprises a first device which detects an engine torque which causes a fluctuation of rotation speed of the engine; and a second device which controls the air-flow controller in accordance with the detected engine torque.

The fuel supply apparatus for a multiple-cylinder internal combustion engine is comprised of a fuel supply means through which a fuel amount is injected into each combustion chamber of the engine. The fuel amount is corrected by fuel supply amount correcting means in a controller of the fuel supply apparatus, in accordance with intake port pressure near the fuel supply means to maintain a proper fuel injection even in various intake pressure conditions. The intake port pressure is estimated by intake port pressure estimating mean in the controller to search a data map in the intake port pressure estimating means, in accordance with an engine speed, an opening degree of the throttle valve, and an crankangle at the fuel injection start time.

Fuel supply apparatus for internal combustion engine

A throttle is disposed in the intake port per cylinder. At idle, the throttles are closed. The pressure in the intake port per cylinder increases during the intake valve closed period due to flow admitted to the intake port downstream of the throttle until it recovers to ambient before the valve overlap period. The flow rate is controlled individually per cylinder such that it is higher during the intake valve closed period than it is during the intake valve opened period. This allows the increased valve overlap to be used without increasing the residual mass fraction in the cylinder. As a result, the stability engine operation at idle and part load range is improved.

An intake air control system for a multi-cylinder reciprocating internal combustion engine. The intake system is comprised of a plurality of intake air passages which are respectively communicable with a plurality of combustion chambers each defined in each engine cylinder. A communication passage is contained with each intake air passage to establish communication between upstream and downstream sides of a throttle valve disposed in each intake air passageway. A bypass valve is disposed in each communication passage to control the flow amount of air flowing through the communication passage, in accordance with an output torque in each cylinder. The opening degree of the throttle valve is controlled in accordance with a target opening degree set in accordance with a depression angle of an accelerator pedal. The maximum value of opening degree of the throttle valve is restricted to the level of a limited maximum opening degree (set in accordance with engine speed) at which a pressure in the combustion chamber is approximately the maximum when an intake valve is closing, thereby suppressing the amount of air which reversely flows through the throttle valve.

Improvement is introduced in a conventional feedback control system for supplying an optimal air-fuel mixture to an internal combustion engine on the basis of a sensed component of exhaust gases thereof. The conventional system generally comprises: a sensor, such as an oxygen analyzer, for sensing a component of exhaust gases of the internal combustion engine, the sensor being deposited in an exhaust line generating an electrical signal representative of the sensed component, a differential signal generator being connected to the sensor for generating an electrical signal representative of a differential value between the signal from the sensor and a reference signal, the reference signal being previously determined in due consideration of an optimal supply of an air-fuel mixture to the engine for maximizing the efficiency of a catalytic reactor, a controller including an integrator such as, for example, a p-i (proportional-integral) controller being connected to the differential signal generator, and another controller for generating a control signal connected to the p-i controller, the control signal being fed to an air-fuel regulating means for supplying an optimal air-fuel mixture to the engine, wherein the integrator of the p-i controller is substituted by one or two simple circuits embodying the present invention for simplifying the p-i controller without reducing the efficiency thereof.
