A display apparatus comprising a plurality of pixel portions arranged in a matrix, a signal driver circuit which generates apply voltages corresponding to display data, and applies the apply voltages to the pixel portions, a scan driver circuit which applies a selecting voltage to selected ones of the pixel portions, and a level shifter circuit which converts a voltage level of the display data into a drive voltage level of the signal driver circuit, thereby producing level-shifted display data. The signal driver circuit generates the apply voltages based on the level-shifted display data.

A liquid crystal driver includes a voltage generator for generating gray scale voltages on the basis of reference voltages, and an output device for selecting one gray scale voltage from the generated gray scale voltages in accordance with display data, for applying inversion/non-inversion control to the selected gray scale voltage with respect to an inversion reference voltage on the basis of the selected gray scale voltage, an AC switching signal and the inversion reference voltage, and for outputting different liquid crystal supply voltages for one and the same display data to a liquid crystal panel.

An information processing system includes a bus, a display data generating circuit coupled to the bus, and a display apparatus coupled to the bus. The display apparatus includes a display panel capable of displaying a grayscale image in accordance with display data in a form of a plurality of bits for each of a plurality of pixels of a display panel generated by the display data generating circuit, and a signal driver which supplies driving voltages corresponding to the display data to at least a part of the plurality of data lines to display a grayscale image on the display panel. The signal driver includes a display memory which stores the display data, and is embodied in an integrated circuit. The display data generating circuit transfers the display data to the display memory via the bus.

A liquid crystal display apparatus includes a liquid crystal display panel, a data processing circuit, a signal driver circuit, a scan driver circuit, and a power circuit. The liquid crystal display panel includes a plurality of pixels constituted by at least a plurality of pixel electrodes disposed in a matrix arrangement, a reference electrode opposing the pixel electrodes, and a liquid crystal disposed between the pixel electrodes and the reference electrode. The data processing circuit receives input display data and an input synchronizing signal, converts the input display data and the input synchronizing signal to output display data and an output synchronizing signal which are compatible with the signal driver circuit, generates an alternating signal as a timing signal for periodically inverting a polarity of a liquid crystal apply voltage applied to the liquid crystal by the signal driver circuit via the pixel electrodes, and outputs the output display data, the output synchronizing signal, and the alternating signal. A logical voltage level of the output display data output from the data processing circuit is different from a logical voltage level of the input display data received by the data processing circuit.

An information processing system includes a bus; a display data generating circuit coupled to the bus for generating display data in a form of a plurality of bits for each of a plurality of pixels of a display panel; and a display apparatus coupled to the bus. The display data generating circuit includes a central processing unit and a memory. The display apparatus includes a display panel including a plurality of data lines and a plurality of scanning lines in a matrix form with pixels formed at intersections of the data lines and the scanning lines, the display panel being capable of displaying a grayscale image in accordance with the display data in a form of a plurality of bits for each of a plurality of pixels of a display panel; a signal driver for supplying driving voltages corresponding to the display data to at least a part of the plurality of data lines to display an image, the signal driver including a display memory for storing the display data and being constructed in an integrated circuit; and a scanning driver for scanning the plurality of scanning lines. The display data generating circuit transfers the display data via the bus to the display memory.

A liquid crystal display apparatus includes a liquid crystal display panel which includes data lines and scanning lines intersecting each other in a matrix arrangement, and a plurality of pixels each including a switching element, a common electrode, and a pixel electrode, with the pixels being disposed at intersections of the data lines and the scanning lines. The apparatus also includes a plurality of signal driver circuits which supply driving voltage signals in accordance with display data to the data lines of the liquid crystal display panel, a scan driver circuit which sequentially selects the scanning lines of the liquid crystal display panel one at time, a power source circuit which supplies power voltages to the signal driver circuits and the scan driver circuit to supply power to the signal driver circuits and the scan driver circuit to enable the signal driver circuits and the scan driver circuit to operate. The power source circuit supplies a first power voltage to each signal driver circuit in the first signal driver circuit group, and supplies a second power voltage different from the first power voltage to each signal driver circuit in the second signal driver circuit group.

A liquid crystal panel and a liquid crystal display device including the panel which has a transparent first substrate, a second substrate arranged so as to oppose the first substrate with a space therebetween and liquid crystals filled in the space between the first substrate and the second substrate and having a twist angle which changes in a plane in parallel with a direction of an electric field. The panel has pixels including pixel electrodes connected to source electrodes and counter electrodes with the pixels being arranged in M rows and N columns, where M and N are integers of at least two. Both of the pixel electrodes and the counter electrodes are provided at the second substrate. The panel also includes drain lines independently provided for respective columns, gate lines independently provided for respective rows, and counter lines connected to the counter electrodes. The counter lines include first counter lines at at least one of odd number columns and odd number rows and second counter lines at at least one of even number columns and even number rows with the first and second counter lines being independent of one another.

A liquid crystal display has a liquid crystal panel having a plurality of data lines and a plurality of scanning lines arranged in a matrix form with pixels being formed at intersections of the data and scanning lines, a scanning circuit for successively applying a voltage to the scanning lines, and a liquid crystal driver for receiving display data from an external device to apply a voltage corresponding to the display data to the data lines. The scanning circuit includes a synchronizing signal generating circuit for generating a frame display synchronizing signal indicative of a frame period for display of image on the liquid crystal panel and a line display synchronizing signal indicative of a line period for image display on the liquid crystal panel. The liquid crystal driver includes a display memory accessed through a memory interface for reading and writing of data, the display memory storing therein display data corresponding to the pixels.
