A display device includes an optical region containing a plurality of pigment grains. Each of the plurality of pigment grains formed by a plurality of pigment molecules encapsulated in an inorganic material, and each of the plurality of pigment grains has a grain size not greater than 70 nm.

In a display device comprising an optical region containing a plurality of pigment grains utilized for wavelength selection, anti-reflection, improvement of the light emitting performance and the like, dyestuff molecules utilized for forming the pigment grains to be dissolved in a solvent in which the dyestuff molecules are insoluble originally are chemically modified, and then the solubility of the modified dyestuff molecules in the solvent is reduced by energy transfer thereto to aggregate the dyestuff molecules, so that grain sizes of pigment grains are suitably controlled for the optical region in accordance with its use.

A display device includes a first substrate, a second substrate disposed to face the first substrate, plural pixels disposed in a display area on an inner surface of the first substrate, a rubber member disposed between the first and second substrates to surround the display area, and sealing the display area from an ambient atmosphere, and an adhesive layer sealing together the first and second substrates along peripheries thereof. The adhesive layer is derived from a sol-gel solution.

A cathode ray tube includes a film which is formed on an outer surface of a panel portion. The film is comprised of a first particles which become transparent due to the oxidation and a second particles which are chemically and physically stable and have the light absorbing ability and the conductivity. A number of the transparent first particles is gradually increased toward a peripheral portion from the center portion of the panel portion.

A panel has a flat external surface and has a curvature on an inner surface thereof. A coating having light absorption characteristics is formed on the external surface of the panel. To the top of the coating, a film which has light absorbing characteristics and contains an adhesive is adhered. The light absorption by the coating is large at the central portion of the panel and is small at the peripheral portion of the panel. The light absorption characteristics of the film is approximately uniform on the entire surface of the panel. Due to such a constitution, a color picture tube having a flat external surface, the least brightness difference and an excellent contrast can be realized.
