Device and methods for acquiring by a host device model information (model ID) of a device assigned in a new range are provided herein. In many embodiments, the device includes a model information storage unit that stores model information from either a first range or a second range outside the first range and a communication unit that communicates with a device that requests model information, receives a model information request, and in response returns the model information if within the first range and returns specific information if the model information is outside the first range. After the specific information is sent, a new request is sent from the host device after which the communication unit provides the model information within the second range, often in a different format from the specific information.

Devices and methods for acquiring model information of a peripheral device by a computer

A printing system including plural devices can appropriately stop normally operating devices in a short time when a problem occurs in any one of the plural devices. The printing system has devices that execute processes for printing on printing paper, device control units that control the devices, and a central control unit that centrally controls the devices. When a problem is detected in one device, the central control unit sends, as a command for a process to be executed immediately, a stop device command for stopping the other device to the device control unit that controls the device in which a problem is not detected. The device control unit that receives the stop device command executes a process based on the stop device command with priority over processes based on other commands, and stops the device.

Printing system and control method

A printer prints all print data when an inverted print mode is selected for printing even if an insufficient memory state occurs in the image conversion buffer. If the roll paper printeris set to the inverted print mode and an insufficient memory monitoring unitdetects an insufficient memory state in the image conversion bufferbefore the inverted image data generating unitconverts and writes all of the received print data to a print data break to the image conversion buffer, the print mode switching unitchanges the print mode from the inverted print mode to the normal print mode, and the normal printing unitprints the print data from the beginning. Because the print data is printed from the beginning when the inverted image data cannot be correctly generated because of insufficient memory, there is no loss of information contained in the print data.
