A first electronic control unit (ECU) is in communication with a second ECU over a vehicle bus. The first ECU is configured to generate functional safety values and security protection values for a message, validate the security protection values for the message, and send the message to the second ECU including the security protection values but not the functional safety values.

End-to-end controller protection and message authentication

A vehicle driver interface includes a mode selector, such as a shift lever, and two shift paddles. The shift paddles perform different functions according to which driving mode is selected via the mode selector. In a manual mode, driver activation of one of the shift paddles results in an upshifts and driver activation of the other shift paddle results in a downshift. In a snowplow mode, driver activation of one of the shift paddles shifts the transmission to reverse while driver activation of the other shift paddle shifts the transmission to forward.

A power supply system and method for powering a vehicle are provided that reduce or eliminate the need for a low voltage power storage unit. The system and method are configured to use power from a high voltage storage unit to support low voltage loads, including the load created by the activation of an ignition system.

An off-board battery cycler is used to condition an on-board battery system used in electric or hybrid electric vehicles. The battery cycler periodically discharges the vehicle's high voltage traction battery to eliminate battery 'memory' that can prevent the battery from being fully charged. The cycler also recharges both the high voltage battery and an on-board low voltage battery used to power the vehicle's electrical system. High voltage AC power used in recharging the high voltage battery is switched using contactors physically isolated within the battery cycler, in order to protect operating personnel from coming onto contact with high voltage. Faults and malfunctions are recorded by the vehicle's on-board controller

A gaseous fuel system for an automotive vehicle includes a gaseous fuel storage tank and an associated pressure sensor for monitoring pressurized gas contained within the storage tank. A parameter-driven routine monitors the integrity of the tank by tracking filing cycles marked by the increase of the tank pressure from a first threshold to a second threshold. Mitigation actions may be taken in the event that the filling cycles exceed a predetermined number, or in the event that other system integrity monitoring indicates that mitigation is in order.
