An orthopaedic surgical instrument includes a patella drill guide having a first bracket, a second bracket coupled to the first bracket and moveable relative to the first bracket. The second bracket includes a drill plate having a plurality of guide holes defined therein.

Patella clamp and drill guide surgical instrument and method of use

A femoral instrument for use in the intramedullary canal is described and includes an intramedullary rod having a tip at a free end. A body is attached to the intramedullary rod and has a face with a bone abutting portion. A centralizer mechanism is located within the rod and is operable to deploy and retract a plurality of members to engage and disengage an inner surface of the intramedullary canal. The length of the intramedullary rod from the tip to the face of the body is less than 30 cm. The instrument can also include an angular adjustment mechanism. The angular adjustment mechanism can have a plurality of formations and can be rotated about the longitudinal axis of the intramedullary rod to present at least a one of the formations to abut a portion of the body to define the relative angle between the body and the intramedullary rod.

The present disclosure provides a sealing device for use in variable focus lenses that includes a guide member having at least one internal cavity and a passageway intersecting the internal cavity. A pinch member is slidably engaged within the internal cavity of the guide member and a portion of the pinch member slides across the passageway and into a portion of the internal cavity to deform and seal a fluid tube extending through the passageway. A set of adjustable eyeglasses employing the sealing device is also provided.

A surgical instrument is described which comprises an alignment guide having a first part including a distal end and a second part having a proximal end. The first part is attached to the second part by a pivot mechanism so that the first part can be tilted relative to the second part. A brace is attached toward the proximal end of the alignment guide for attaching the instrument to a limb of a patient. A component is attached toward the distal end of the alignment guide. The pivot mechanism is configured so that tilting the first part does not substantially change the separation between the component and the brace.

A patella resection assembly comprises a patella resection guide and a stylus. The patella resection guide has bone-gripping members on two movable arms and a saw guide surface. The stylus is pivotably mounted to the arms of the resection guide and has a free end received in the slot in the resection guide. The arms of the patella resection guide are movable to a variety of positions with different distances between the bone-gripping members while the stylus is in place.

The present invention provides a speculum including a body, an opening, a first blade pivotably secured to the body and a second blade that is integral with the body. The blades are located at opposed sides of the opening. The first blade is movable between a first retracted position in which it lies adjacent to the second blade and a second extended position in which it is spaced apart from the second blade. A mechanism is also provided to move the first blade from the first position to the second position. When the first blade is in the extended position, there is an inspection channel formed that extends through the opening and between the blades. The mechanism for moving the first blade is preferably located substantially outside the periphery of the opening when the first blade is in the extended position.

A surgical instrument which can be attached to a patient is described. The instrument includes an alignment guide having a distal end and a proximal end. A brace is attached toward the proximal end of the alignment guide for attaching the instrument to a limb of a patient. The brace comprises a pair of opposed members, each member being shaped to hold a respective bony part of the patient on either side of the patient. At least a part of the brace is made of a resilient material allowing the brace to grip the patient in use.
