A liquid crystal compound comprising a specific compound having a positive dielectric anisotropy as the first component, and a specific compound having a low viscosity as a second component. Further, the liquid crystal compound may contain a specific compound having a positive dielectric anisotropy as the third component, a specific compound having a maximum temperature or a low viscosity as the fourth component, or a specific compound having a negative dielectric anisotropy as the fifth component.

Compound having four polymerizable groups, liquid crystal composition and liquid crystal display device

A liquid crystal composition and a liquid crystal display device which includes the composition are provided. The liquid crystal composition contains a specific compound having a polymerizable group as a first component, and may contain a specific compound having a large negative dielectric anisotropy and a low minimum temperature as a second component, or a specific compound having a small viscosity or a large maximum temperature as a third component. The liquid crystal composition satisfies at least one of the following characteristics: a high maximum temperature of a nematic phase, a low minimum temperature of the nematic phase, a small viscosity, a suitable optical anisotropy, a large negative dielectric anisotropy, a large specific resistance, a high stability to ultraviolet light and a high stability to heat. Alternatively, a liquid crystal composition having a suitable balance regarding at least two of the aforementioned characteristics is also provided.

Polymerizable compound, liquid crystal composition, and liquid crystal display device

The invention provides a compound having two polymerizable groups, wherein one is bonded directly to the ring and the other is bonded to the ring through a spacer, as a compound in which the polymerizability is not decreased and the solubility is high in a liquid crystal composition. A compound represented by formula (1), wherein in formula (1), for example, Aand Aare 1,4-phenylene in which at least one hydrogen has been replaced by fluorine; Zis alkylene having 1 to 12 carbons; Zis alkylene having 1 to 12 carbons; Xis hydrogen, fluorine, methyl or trifluoromethyl; Pis a polymerizable group; and a is an integer from 0 to 3.

Polymerizable compound

To provide a liquid crystal composition satisfying at least one characteristic such as high maximum temperature of nematic phase, low minimum temperature thereof, small viscosity, suitable optical anisotropy, large negative dielectric anisotropy and specific resistance, high stability to ultraviolet light and heat; a liquid crystal composition having a suitable balance regarding at least two thereof; and an AM device including the composition. The liquid crystal composition has nematic phase, and contains as a first component a specific antioxidant having high compatibility with the composition and an excellent antioxidant function, and may contain a specific component having high maximum temperature or small viscosity as a second component, a specific component having high maximum temperature or large dielectric anisotropy as a third component, a specific component having large negative dielectric anisotropy as a fourth component, and a specific antioxidant as a fifth component, and a liquid crystal display device includes the composition.
