A medium voltage circuit breaker in a high pressure subsea environment includes: a vacuum circuit breaker; and a drive in a pressure tight housing. For an electrical three-phase arrangement, one vacuum circuit breaker per phase is arranged in a separate pole housing each, and the resulting three pole housings are mounted to a common base compartment, in which three drives for the three vacuum circuit breakers are arranged. The three pole housings and the common base compartment are attached such that they commonly form a pressure tight compartment.

Medium voltage circuit breaker in subsea environment

In an embodiment, the present invention provides a gas insulated switchgear for medium- or high-voltage use, including: a closed housing of a switchgear compartment having insulating gases or fluids. The insulation gas includes sulfurhexaflouride (SF). Constructive features of the switchgear are designed such that they are overperformed for the use of sulfurhexaflouride (SF), but already sufficiently performed for the use of eco efficient insulation gas with a mixture of up to 20% fluoroketone C5F10O and air or oxygen and carbondioxide. A later retrofit or adaption to a switchgear, filled with eco-efficient insulation gas, only needs the aforesaid gas exchange, without exchanging constructive parts of the switchgear.

An exemplary assembled pole part includes two pole part frames made of insulating material, between which a vacuum interrupter is mounted. The vacuum interrupter includes a fixed contact and a moving contact. The frame includes a first support to affix the vacuum interrupter at the moving contact side, and a second support to affix the vacuum interrupter to the fixed contact side at an opposite end of the frame. In order to apply common pole part frames for different vacuum interrupter sizes, in order to alleviate the manufacture of such pole parts, at least two fixation points are arranged pairwise in parallel along different distances along the long axis of the frame. The first support at the moving contact side maintains a specified fixation position, so the frame is configured for use with at least one other vacuum interrupter of a different length.

A disconnector is disposed in the housing and includes a movable contact, as well as fixed contacts that are spaced apart and arranged linearly in a direction perpendicular to a wall of the housing. The wall of the housing is provided with an inspection window that permits a person to see the colored or topographical marking in relation to the fixed contacts, thereby permitting the person to determine the position of the movable contact.

To this end, the circuit breaker region is measured in such a way that the circuit breakers, and the output-side disconnectors and earth electrodes are all arranged therein.
