Various embodiments are described that relate to a radiating element and an engineered magnetic material. In a communication environment a radiating element can be used to communicate information, such as to send signals. Various factors, including electromagnetic factors, can influence the performance of the radiating element. In one example, if the radiating element becomes too close to a ground plane, then performance of the radiating element can suffer. To counter negative effects of being too close to the ground plane an engineered magnetic material can be employed that causes the radiating element to perform better when relatively close to the ground plane.

Various embodiments are described that relate to a patch antenna. Portions of a patch antenna, such as a patch antenna element and a probe feed wire can produce an impedance that is undesirable. To compensate for this, a parasitic feed pad can be aligned with the patch antenna element to create a capacitor. This capacitor produces a capacitance that negates the impedance. It can be preferred for the capacitance to be such that there is no excess capacitance and no excess impedance.

Various embodiments are described that relate to co-polarization between a first antenna and a second antenna. The first antenna and second antenna can be configured such that co-polarization between the two is increased (e.g., maximized) while cross-polarization is decreased (e.g., minimized). This can be accomplished by physical orientation of the first antenna against the second antenna and/or through powering the first antenna and second antenna differently with phase delay.

Various embodiments are described that relate to a line feed and a dipole element. The line feed can be supplied directly with a current without a balun. Being supplied with this current can cause the line feed to emit an electromagnetic field. This electromagnetic field can excite a dipole element with two sides. Through this excitement, the dipole element can have current flowing in a uniform direction on both sides.
