A cable neutral wires connector for connecting neutral wires of a cable, the cable having a cable longitudinal axis, includes a connector body, a plurality of neutral wire ports, and at least one securing mechanism. The neutral wire ports are defined in the connector body. The neutral wire ports are each configured to receive at least one of the neutral wires therethrough. The at least one securing mechanism is configured to secure the neutral wires in the connector body. The connector body is configured to be mounted on the cable such that the neutral wire ports are circumferentially distributed about the cable longitudinal axis.

A method for repairing a damaged area of an outer jacket layer of a cable or cable accessory includes: applying sealant to a strip of flexible material; forming a preliminary sealant layer on the damaged area and around an entire circumference of the outer jacket layer by sliding the strip of flexible material relative to the outer jacket layer with the sealant in contact with the outer jacket layer; wrapping the strip of flexible material around the entire circumference of the outer jacket layer and the preliminary sealant layer, wherein the preliminary sealant layer holds the strip of flexible material in place after the wrapping; and allowing the sealant to cure to thereby form a final sealant layer on the damaged area and around the entire circumference of the outer jacket layer, wherein the strip of flexible material holds the sealant in place while allowing the sealant to cure.

The cover assembly is movable from a folded state to an unfolded state by sliding the first outer section in a first axial direction away from the intermediate section.

A cover assembly for covering an elongate substrate includes a resilient, elastically expandable sleeve member and a holdout device. The sleeve member defines an axially extending inner sleeve passage. The holdout device includes a generally tubular, flexible bladder sleeve mounted in the inner sleeve passage. The bladder sleeve defines a cavity and a holdout passage to receive the elongate substrate. The cavity is inflated or inflatable with an inflation gas.

A link box includes a housing that defines an enclosure, an electrical connector within the enclosure, an aperture formed through a wall of the housing, and a cable entry seal secured to the housing at the aperture. The cable entry seal receives a cable inserted into the housing for connection to the electrical connector. The cable entry seal includes first and second parts that are removably secured together. The first part includes a flange and an externally-threaded portion that extends outwardly from the flange. The externally-threaded portion is inserted through the aperture from within the enclosure such that the flange abuts an internal surface of the wall. The second part includes an internally-threaded body and a seal conduit that extends outwardly from the internally-threaded body. The internally-threaded body is threadingly engaged with the externally-threaded portion of the first part and the seal conduit surrounds and seals the cable.

A seal system for an oil-filled cable termination including a cable extending through each of a cable gland and a stress cone that is spaced apart from the cable gland. The seal system includes: a first oil seal layer surrounding the cable between the cable gland and the stress cone; a second oil seal layer overlapping and contacting the first oil seal layer; a first oil barrier layer overlapping and contacting an upper portion of the second oil seal layer; a second oil barrier layer overlapping and contacting a lower portion of the second oil seal layer, the second oil barrier layer spaced apart from the first oil barrier layer; and a heat shrinkable tube secured around the first and second oil barrier layers.

Seal systems for oil-filled cable terminations and assemblies and methods including the same

A pre-expanded breakout boot assembly includes a breakout boot assembly including an elastomeric breakout boot and plurality of finger sealant layers of a flowable conformable medium. The breakout boot includes a tubular main section and a plurality of tubular fingers extending from an end of the main section. Each of the finger sealant layers is pre-mounted on an interior surface of a respective one of the fingers. Each of the finger holdouts is removably mounted in the finger passage of a respective one of the fingers. When the pre-expanded breakout boot assembly is positioned on the cable joint with a cable extending through each finger passage, the finger holdouts are removed from the breakout boot assembly, and each finger elastically radially contracts about a respective one of the cables, each finger sealant layer is radially interposed between each of the interior surface of the finger and the cable in the finger.

Breakout boot assemblies and methods for covering electrical cables and connections

An integral, unitary pre-expanded cover assembly unit for covering an electrical connection between first and second electrical cables each having a primary conductor and a sleeve defines a cable passage to receive the electrical connection and the primary conductors of the first and second cables. The outer sleeve surrounds the inner sleeve. The duct is neutral conductor includes a cover assembly and a removable holdout. The cover assembly includes an elastomeric inner sleeve, an elastomeric outer sleeve, and a duct. The inner interposed radially between the inner and outer sleeves. The duct defines a duct passage configured to receive at least one of the neutral conductors therethrough. The holdout is mounted within the inner sleeve. The holdout is operative to temporarily maintain the inner sleeve in an expanded state and the outer sleeve in an expanded state. The duct is flexible. The duct is operative to resist radial collapse of the duct and to bend radially inwardly as the holdout is axially removed from the inner sleeve.

A sealing system for forming an environmentally sealed joint with an elongate member includes a tubular substrate, a pre-expanded cover unit, and a flowable sealant. The tubular substrate includes an integral guide feature and defines a substrate bore to receive a portion of the elongate member. The pre-expanded cover unit includes a holdout and a tubular cover sleeve. The holdout includes a helically wound strip forming a tubular holdout body and a rip cord. The holdout body defines a holdout passage extending axially therethrough. The tubular cover sleeve is mounted on the holdout body. The holdout maintains the cover sleeve in a radially elastically expanded state. With the elongate member positioned with a portion thereof extending from the tubular substrate and a layer of the sealant mounted on an outer surface of the tubular substrate and/or on an outer surface of the elongate member, the pre-expandable unit can be mounted around the layer of sealant and the holdout can then be removed from the cover sleeve by withdrawing the rip cord through the holdout passage between the layer of the sealant and the holdout body to remove the holdout body and thereby permit the cover sleeve to radially contract about the tubular substrate and the elongate member, and the guide feature serves to prevent or inhibit the rip cord from contacting the layer of the sealant as the rip cord is withdrawn through the holdout passage.

Sealing systems and methods for elongate members

An assembly for use with an oil-filled cable termination includes a cable gland, a cable received in the cable gland, a stress cone received around the cable and spaced apart from the cable gland, and a seal system around the cable between the cable gland and the stress cone. The seal system includes: a first oil seal layer surrounding an upper portion of the cable gland and a portion of the cable between the cable gland and the stress cone, with the first oil seal layer being spaced apart from the stress cone; a second oil seal layer surrounding the first oil seal layer and extending between the cable gland and the stress cone; and a third oil seal layer surrounding the second oil seal layer and extending between the cable gland and the stress cone.

A method for installing an elastomeric cover sleeve on an electrical connection including a connector and a cable having a cable axis includes: providing an installation tool including a slide portion; premounting the installation tool on the cable such that the slide portion extends along the cable axis and covers a portion of the cable; thereafter, sliding the cover sleeve onto the cable and onto the slide portion of the premounted installation tool to a parked position wherein the slide portion is interposed between the cover sleeve and the cable; installing the connector onto the cable; and thereafter, sliding the cover sleeve along the cable axis and the slide portion onto the connector.

Tool for installing cover sleeves on electrical connectors

An insulating cover for an L-shaped busbar includes first and second opposing longitudinal edge portions and a longitudinal groove between the first and second longitudinal edge portions. The cover is configured to wrap around the busbar in an installed position with the first and second longitudinal edge portions overlapping, with the second longitudinal edge portion adjacent and generally parallel to a leg of the busbar and with the first longitudinal edge portion in the longitudinal groove of the cover.

Insulating L busbar covers and related systems and methods

A cover assembly for covering an elongate substrate includes a holdout device and a resilient, elastically radially expanded sleeve member. The holdout device includes a core having an axially extending slit defined therein and defining a core passage to receive the substrate, and a designated target region. The sleeve member defines an axially extending sleeve passage. The sleeve member is mounted on the core such that the core is disposed in the sleeve passage and the sleeve member exerts a radially compressive recovery force on the core. When the substrate is disposed in the core passage and a radially directed release force is applied to the target region, the core will reduce in circumference and collapse around the substrate under the recovery force of the sleeve member to a collapsed position.
