The present invention relates to a set of iron clubs. It is an object of the present invention to provide a set of iron clubs in which the directivity of a ball hit with an iron club belonging to a group of long iron clubs used for hitting the ball strongly so as to get distance can be stabilized and the time to close the face of the head can be made to coincide with each other so that it is easy for a player to hit a ball with the iron club. A set of iron clubs composed of a plurality of iron clubs, the club numbers of which are different from each other, are characterized in that: distances of the centers of gravity of the head bodies of groups of long iron clubs and short iron clubs are respectively set in a predetermined size range; and the distances of the centers of gravity of the group of long iron clubs are set smaller than the distances of the centers of gravity of the group of short iron clubs.

The invention relates a golf club head with a structure which can stabilize the direction of the hit ball and can enhance a ball hitting feeling. In the golf club head, a recessed portion is formed in a face portion of a head main body formed of metal with the peripheral edge portion of the face portion remaining unrecessed. A face plate formed of material smaller in specific gravity than the head main body is mounted to the recessed portion. A frame member formed of material larger in specific gravity than the head main body and softer than the face plate and head main body is held by and between the peripheral wall of the face plate and the peripheral wall of the recessed portion.

The invention concerns an arrangement for a golf club head, which can enhance the surface rigidity of the ball hitting surface of a face plate to extend the carry of the ball and to stabilize the direction of the hit ball. In the golf club head, a recessed portion is formed in the back portion of a head main body formed of metal with the peripheral edge portion thereof remaining unrecessed, and a support portion having a thickness smaller than the peripheral edge portion is provided integrally with the head main body in such a manner that it is interposed between the mutually facing inner walls of the recessed portion.

In a golf club head, a head main body formed of metal includes a recessed portion in the face part thereof, a face member formed of a highly elastic synthetic resin material is mounted in the recessed portion, and, at the ball hitting surface side of the face member, there is disposed a protective layer formed of a metal plate which is higher in hardness than the highly elastic synthetic resin material, is equal to or smaller than the head main body in specific gravity, and is smaller in thickness than the face member. The golf club head can prevent the ball hitting surface of the golf club head from being worn without impairing ball carry and ball hitting feeling.
