Various methods and systems are provided for an exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) EGR cooler for an engine system. In one example, the EGR cooler includes a first section with a first group of tubes adapted to flow exhaust gases, and also includes a first group of passages formed by exterior surfaces of the first group of tubes and adapted to flow coolant from a coolant source. The EGR cooler also includes a second section including a second group of tubes adapted to flow coolant from the coolant source, and a second group of passages formed by exterior surfaces of the second group of tubes and adapted to flow the exhaust gas from the first group of tubes.

Method and systems for an exhaust gas recirculation cooler including two sections

Thermal management systems and methods related to controlling temperature of internal combustion engines are provided. In one embodiment, a thermal management system includes an air intake structure defining an air intake passage therethrough coupled to a plurality of cylinders in an engine, a multi-stage cooling assembly, positioned in the air intake passage, including an air-to-coolant intercooler for cooling intake air and an air-to-air heat exchanger for cooling intake air, an air-to-coolant radiator fluidly coupled with the air-to-coolant intercooler of the multi-stage cooling assembly, a first fan operable to provide air flow to the multi-stage cooling assembly and the air-to-coolant radiator, and a second fan operable to provide air flow to the air-to-coolant radiator.

Thermal management systems and methods

A system for cooling an engine on a vehicle without a coolant based intercooler and intermediate duct, the system including an air-to-oil radiator system configured to cool oil that flows through an engine, an air-to-air radiator system configured to cool air that flows through the engine and further configured to operate in conjunction with the air-to-oil radiator system to provide cool air for use with the air-to-oil radiator system, and a slow flow coolant radiator configured to cool a coolant provided to cool the engine and further provided to operate in conjunction with the air-to-oil radiator system. In one example, a removable cooling system for an engine, the engine in a vehicle car body, the system comprising: a removable package including a first exhaust gas recirculation cooler, a second exhaust gas recirculation cooler, and a third exhaust gas recirculation cooler, the first, second, and third coolers coupled together in series, where the removable package is located at a top of the vehicle car body and where the removable package is removably coupled to the vehicle as a unit.

The system includes a first cooling circuit configurable in a first mode for directing an oil coolant portion into main oil cooler and an intercooler coolant portion into an intercooler and configurable in a second mode for limiting the oil coolant portion provided to the main oil cooler. The system also includes a supplementary oil cooler for cooling a portion of the lubrication oil and a supplementary coolant source for providing a second coolant flow to the supplementary oil cooler. A locomotive includes an engine (), an intercooler (), and an oil cooler (), each having respective cooling passages formed therein. The locomotive also includes a cooling system () in selective communication with the respective cooling passages for selectively providing a first coolant () and a second coolant () at a higher temperature than the first coolant to the cooling passages. A method of operating the cooling system includes providing, in a first mode, a first coolant flow () to the intercooler and a second coolant flow () to the oil cooler at a first temperature different than the first coolant flow to achieve preferential cooling of the intercooler. The method also includes providing, in a second mode, the first coolant flow to the intercooler and the second coolant flow to the oil cooler at a second temperature different than the first coolant flow to achieve preferential cooling of the oil cooler.

Integrated engine control and cooling system for diesel engines

A cooling apparatus ( ) and method for a turbocharged internal combustion engine ( ). Locomotive cooling system

An enhanced split cooling system for a turbocharger and an engine includes an oil cooler, a three-way valve assembly and a four-way valve assembly for controlling the flow of coolant, and radiators and subcoolers, for controlling coolant temperature. The valve assemblies are independently controllable to direct coolant through an oil cooler and a turbocharger intercooler either directly from the engine if the oil cooler and intercooler require heating or from the radiators and subcoolers if the oil cooler and intercooler require cooling. Depending upon the engine operating temperature, the valve assemblies can be configured to establish at least three different coolant processing modes.

Enhanced split cooling system

A system and method for recycling first and second quantities of process heat from a vapor having substantially the total initial process heat where the vapor is channeled from at least one apparatus in which a process having a vapor utilization phase is practiced. The preferred embodiment of the system comprises at least one steam sterilizer, apparatus for channeling steam having substantially the total process heat from one of the sterilizers to a first phase change material where the first quantity of heat is absorbed by the first phase change material and water, having the second quantity of heat, is yielded. A fluid, preferably a refrigerant, is passed through the first phase change material for transfer of the first quantity of heat to the refrigerant. The refrigerant is then compressed in a compressor to provide a sufficient quantity of additional heat to raise the heat content of the refrigerant above the initial process heat. The compressed refrigerant is passed through a boiler where the first quantity of heat is transferred to water having the second quantity of heat and a sufficient quantity of additional heat is added from an additional heat source to form steam having the total process heat. The steam is selectively injected into one of the sterilizers.
