A real-time photovoltaic power plant control system and method of control for plant output, voltage regulation and/or power factor regulation. The system comprises a grid interface controller configured to receive power information from a power grid and provide commands for controlling at least one active or reactive power supplied to the power grid, a power plant controller configured to receive commands from the grid interface controller for and direct real-time output of the power plant, a plurality of local controllers connected to and controlled by the power plant controller, and a plurality of inverters each connected to supply power from at least one photovoltaic device to the power grid and arranged such that each local controller is connected to and controls at least one inverter, the inverters reporting status information in real-time back to the local controllers, and the local controller reporting status information in real-time back to the power plant controller.

A method for use in calculating a possible power output of a wind turbine. A series of performance data samples is acquired. Each performance data sample includes a meteorological condition and a power output indicated at a first time by one or more sensors associated with a wind turbine. A transfer function is calculated based at least in part on the series of performance data samples. The transfer function relates power output to the meteorological condition. A possible power output is calculated based on the transfer function and at least one meteorological condition indicated by the one or more sensors at a second time.

A Monitoring and Diagnostics System is provided, which includes a monitoring unit and a monitored unit remotely located from the monitoring unit. The System also includes communication means between the monitoring unit and the monitored unit. The monitored unit includes data acquisition means for providing fault data of the monitored unit and the communication means are adapted to communicate the fault data from the monitored unit to the monitoring unit. The monitoring unit includes a rules engine having a set of expert rules for analyzing the information contained in the fault data and being adapted to deduce diagnostics information from the rules and from the information. In addition, a communication method for communicating between a first Programmable Logic Controller and a second Programmable Logic Controller or a central unit is provided, in which a description file is provided.

Automatic remote monitoring and diagnostics system

A method and system for intelligently directing output boost capabilities of wind turbine generators operating together in a wind plant has been provided. Selected ones of the wind turbine generators have their own individual boost modes of operation that can provide a limited time increase in power output. This boost capability of the selected individual generators is conveyed to the wind plant control upon request and is used to direct individual boot operations of the generators. In some embodiments, weather forecast information including wind forecast information is used to calculate the generators present and future forecasted boost capabilities.

The operational information is analyzed based on a set of rules, and a determination is made as to whether a fault of the wind turbine is resettable. A method of operating a wind farm that includes a plurality of wind turbine generators (WTGs) includes generating wind turbine generator (WTG) availability data for each WTG. The method also includes generating wide-area meteorological data for a first geographical region. The method further includes generating narrow-area meteorological forecast data for a second geographical region by transmitting at least a portion of the wide-area meteorological data to at least one resident narrow-area meteorological forecast algorithm. The first geographical region includes at least a portion of the second geographical region. The method also includes generating electric power production forecast data by using at least one resident electric power production forecast algorithm to manipulate the WTG availability data and the narrow-area meteorological forecast data.

The present invention discloses a system and method for isolating failures in a locomotive. In the present invention, the cause of failures occurring in the locomotive sub-systems are determined quickly and efficiently, while minimizing the need for human interaction. However, the present invention can incorporate information provided by an operator to produce a more refined diagnosis. In the present invention, incidents are recorded in an incident log and mapped to indicators, which are sent to a fault isolator for diagnosis. The fault isolator uses a diagnostic knowledge base having diagnostic information between failures occurring in locomotive and observable symptoms happening therein. A diagnostic engine then processes the mapped indicators with the diagnostic information in the diagnostic knowledge base and produces a list of the most likely causes for any failures. The present invention then provides a course of action to correct the failures. The present invention can also be used to automatically isolate and diagnose failures occurring in process having a plurality of equipment.
