An introducer sheath assembly () having a sheath tube (), a hub (), a valve () and a valve-retaining cap () on the proximal end of the hub. The cap () is so secured to the hub () as to have a closed, locked position and also an open position permitting access to the interior of the hub and the valve () while the cap () remains secured to the hub ().

Introducer assembly with cap and method of using same

A catheter assembly () having a catheter () with lumens (), extension tubes () and a hub (). Distal ends () of the extension tubes and the proximal end () of the catheter are secured in and to the hub. Fittings () are first affixed in the distal ends of the extension tubes and have annular collars () that are embedded in the hub when the hub is molded over the distal ends of the extension tubes during manufacturing. An array of annular barbs () secure the cylindrical portion () of each fitting in the respective extension tube distal end ().

Catheter-to-extension tube assembly and method of making same

A releasably locking dilator and sheath assembly and methods for releasing the dilator from the sheath and longitudinally splitting the sheath. The assembly includes a dilator having a dilator hub and a sheath having a sheath hub. The sheath hub may have a valve and has two opposing winged tabs, each tab having a perpendicular portion and an angled portion as well as a female threaded portion. The dilator hub has a male threaded portion designed to engage the female threaded portion of the sheath hub. The dilator is released from the sheath by rotating the dilator 90&#xb0; in relation to the sheath and pulling the dilator out of the sheath. The sheath is longitudinally split by creating a couple on each of the winged tabs thereby forcing the sheath and the sheath hub to split longitudinally. With the sheath and sheath hub split longitudinally, the sheath is removed from around a catheter while leaving the catheter in place.

Releasably locking dilator and sheath assembly

A tearaway sheath assembly () having a splittable sheath tube () a splittable hub (), a split valve () and a split cap (). The valve () has a slit () at least partially across the transverse distal section () such that transverse distal section may be displaced laterally during insertion through the slit (), of a dilator () or a catheter. The valve () is formed in two separate halves (A,B;) that are fused or adhered to each other to form a sealed weak bond () that is easily broken during splitting of the sheath; each valve half is mechanically affixed in a proximal valve-receiving recess () of the hub such as by anchor posts () extending through apertures (A,B) in ears (A,B) of each valve half. A two-part cap () is affixed to the hub proximal end () and traps the valve between itself and the hub. Pairs of opposed gaps () of the cap () and the hub () are aligned with lines of weakness or seams () of the sheath tube () and the weak bond () of the valve, facilitating splitting of the assembly () when desired by the practitioner to peel it away from the inserted catheter.

Tearaway sheath assembly with split hemostasis valve seal

A tearaway introducer sheath assembly () for use in implantation of a catheter into a patient, having an elongated polytetrafluoroethylene sheath tube () and a proximal polyethylene hub component (). The hub comprises two halves () insert molded about the sheath tube proximal end and joined to each other by frangible webs () enabling manual splitting. At least one pair of opposed holes () is formed through the tube proximal end portion, and a polyethylene liner () is inserted into the tube's proximal end portion. The polyethylene flows into the at least one pair of holes () to fuse with the liner, establishing a pair of physical joints (') integrally joining the liner () to a respective hub half (). Upon manual splitting of the hub halves, the sheath tube easily splits along its length as a result of a property of the polytetrafluoroethylene material.

Introducer sheath assembly with hub

A multiple catheter assembly () including a first catheter () having a first proximal end region (), a first distal end region () terminating in a first distal tip (), and an outer surface () defining at least a first lumen () extending longitudinally therethrough between a first distal and a first proximal opening. The assembly () also includes a second catheter () having a second proximal end region (), a second distal end region () terminating in a second distal tip (), and a second outer surface () defining at least a second lumen () extending longitudinally therethrough between a second distal and a second proximal opening. The first () and second () lumens are independent from each other for facilitating simultaneous flow in opposite directions. The outer surfaces () of the first and second catheters are releasably joined for allowing the first and second distal tips () and first and second proximal end regions () to be at least partially longitudinally split from each other. A method of inserting the catheter assembly () is also provided.

Multiple catheter assembly

A co-axial catheter assembly including a first lumen having a first distal end and a first proximal end, and a second lumen having a second distal end and a second proximal end. The second lumen extends co-axially with the first lumen, wherein the second lumen is at least partially disposed within the first lumen and the second distal end extends distally of the first distal end. A catheter hub provides for fluid connections of the inner and outer lumens with respective extension tubes, and includes spacers that maintain the proximal end of the inner lumen concentrically within the proximal end of the outer lumen and the distal end of the inner lumen concentrically within the distal end of the outer lumen, respectively. Methods of manufacturing and of inserting the catheter are also disclosed.

Co-axial catheter

A co-axial catheter assembly (), including a first lumen () having a first distal end () and a first proximal end (), and a second lumen () having a second distal end () and a second proximal end (). The second lumen () extends co-axially with the first lumen (), wherein the second lumen is at least partially disposed within the first lumen and the second distal end extends distally of the first distal end. A method of manufacturing the catheter is also disclosed.

Method of making a co-axial catheter

A method for inserting a multiple catheter assembly into a patient. The assembly includes a first catheter which includes a first distal end region, a first outer surface defining a first lumen, and a first transition region transitioning cross sections of the first outer surface and the first lumen. A second catheter includes a second distal end region, a second outer surface defining a second lumen, and a second transition region transitioning cross sections of the second outer surface and the second lumen. The outer surfaces of the first and second catheters are releasably joined by a splittable bond for allowing first and second distal tips of the assembly to be at least partially longitudinally split from each other. The method includes steps of separating the first and second distal end regions, and inserting the first and second distal tips through an incision and into an area to be catheterized.
