A method for controlling access to a resource, the method performed by a system comprising a first component, a second component and a third component, the first component comprising a first cryptographic key; the second component comprising a second cryptographic key. The method comprising: transmitting a signal; generating, by the first component a first channel observation; generating, by the second component, a second channel observation, and a first data value based on the second channel observation and the second cryptographic key; transmitting, by the second component, the second channel observation and the first data value; and verifying the second component based on the second channel observation, the first cryptographic key and the first data value; and allowing access to the resource in response to determining that the second component is: 1) permitted to gain access to the resource; and 2) located proximate to the first component.

Secret key generation using a relay with precoding in the null space

A method of operating a first node to generate a secret key for encrypting wireless transmissions between the first node and a second node. The method comprises receiving a first training signal comprising a plurality of subcarriers from the second node and constructing a matrix from the frequency responses of each of the plurality of subcarriers of the first training signal at the first node. A singular value decomposition of the matrix is computed; and a secret key is derived from one or more singular vectors of the singular value decomposition.

A method of transmitting packets between a plurality of nodes of a network. The method comprising generating a codeword by encoding the input data with an error correcting code and generating a shaped codeword by applying a shaping function to at least a part of the codeword. Method and device for generating soft decision detection parameters

A method of storing a number of data values in a plurality of flash memory cells wherein each flash memory cell has a plurality of storage states and each data value is selected from a set of possible data values. The method comprises programming the number of data values to the plurality of flash memory cells using a mapping which uniquely associates each combination of storage states for the plurality of flash memory cells with a concatenated data value from a set of concatenated data values wherein the set of concatenated data values comprises a concatenated data value for every combination of possible data values for the number of data values, the concatenated data value has a position for each data value in the number of data values and the mapping is such that between adjacent storage states all but one data values are identical and each position in the concatenated data value changes the data value it represents between the same storage states on each flash memory cell.

Multi-cell modulation for flash memory

A method of decoding data stored in non-volatile memory in which each memory cell stores data by adopting one of a plurality of storage states. The method comprises using a threshold for determining a physical property of the memory cells to distinguish between at least two storage states, reading a data codeword from a plurality of the memory cells using the threshold and determining a bit error rate for the data codeword read using the threshold, repeatedly modifying said threshold and re-reading said data codeword using said modified threshold and determining a modified bit error rate for the data codeword read using the modified threshold, selecting the one of the modified thresholds for which the mutual information content between the stored data input and the read data is maximised based on the bit error rate for the data codeword read using the threshold and the bit error rate for the data codeword read using the modified threshold, determining a log likelihood ratio of a quantisation interval bounded by the threshold and the selected threshold generating soft decoded data by performing soft decoding of the data using said log likelihood ratio and outputting the soft decoding data.

A computer-implemented method of estimating IQ imbalance in a communication system including a transmitter and a receiver. The method includes: defining a system model in which a transmitted signal is affected by TX IQ imbalance, carrier frequency offset (CFO) and RX IQ imbalance; controlling a local oscillator at the transmitter to introduce a known carrier frequency offset (CFO) during a calibration; and estimating unknown parameters in the system model using a pre-defined training sequence to determine the TX IQ imbalance and the RX IQ imbalance.

Soft decoding for flash memory

In an embodiment a method of feeding back channel state information from a beamformee device to a beamformer device is disclosed. The method comprises receiving, at a plurality of antennas of the beamformee device, signals from the beamformer device; constructing a beamforming matrix, the beamforming matrix spanning a vector subspace and indicating the signals received by each of the plurality of antennas of the beamformee device; determining a first feedback matrix that spans the vector subspace of the beamforming feedback matrix such that it can be compressed with a lower number of non-zero coefficients than the beamforming feedback matrix; compressing the first feedback matrix into a plurality of coefficients; and transmitting an indication of the plurality of coefficients to the beamformer device.

Wireless communication methods and apparatus

In an embodiment, a wireless communication method of transmitting a plurality of data streams from a transmitter to a receiver is disclosed. The transmitter comprises a plurality of antennas. The method comprises: encoding each of the data streams as a sequence of code words; determining a plurality of precoding transmit coefficients from channel information for each of a plurality of subcarriers, the precoding transmit coefficients defining spatial channels between the plurality of antennas of the transmitter and the receiver; determining a set of power loading factors for each spatial channel between the receiver and the transmitter, each set of power loading factors comprising a power loading factor for each of the plurality of subcarriers, by allocating power between the plurality of subcarriers to satisfy a signal to interference and noise target per code word; determining a signal for transmission by each antenna of the plurality of antennas by applying respective precoding coefficients and power loading factors to each respective sequence of code words; and transmitting each of the sequences of code words on a plurality of subcarriers of at least one of the spatial channels by transmitting the respective signals for transmission from each respective antenna.

In an embodiment, a method of managing distributed storage in a wireless network is disclosed. The wireless network comprises a plurality of data generating nodes, each data generating node configured to generate and store data symbols and parity symbols. The parity symbols depend on data symbols stored on other data generating nodes. The method comprises receiving indications of link quality estimates for wireless links between the data generating nodes; selecting an arrangement of an array code from a plurality of possible arrangements using the indications of link quality estimates, the array code depending on the number of data generating nodes in the plurality of data generating nodes and a required number of nodes from which all of the data symbols stored in the wireless network can be generated, the arrangement indicating for each data generating node, the dependence of the parity symbols stored on that data generating node on the data symbols stored on other data generating nodes; and sending an indication of the selected arrangement to the data generating nodes.
