A method for transversally sealing a packaging material tube, comprises placing a transversal sealing section of the tube between a sonotrode and an anvil. The transversal sealing section comprises a first two-layer sub-section, a three-layer sub-section and a second two-layer sub-section, transmitting ultrasonic acoustic vibrations, having a frequency and an amplitude, from the sonotrode into the transversal sealing section, thereby melting the plastic foil in the transversal sealing section, and pressing the tube together between the sonotrode and the anvil to bond the plastic foil such that transversal sealing is formed. The anvil has a ridge comprising various sub-sections for receiving various ones of the sub-sections of the tube, wherein the ridge has equal height in at least some of the sub-sections. The frequency, amplitude, pressure and paperboard properties are chosen to achieve equal temperature in the first two-layer sub-section, the three-layer sub-section and the second two-layer sub-section.

The sealing section is formed by holding a first section and a second section of the package against each other while providing heat such that the plastic layer of the first and second section melt and thereby provide for that the first and second section adhere to each other. The apparatus comprises a sample holder arranged for fixating a sample comprising the sealing section of the package, wherein at least part of the sample holder is transparent, a magnification device arranged on a first side of the sample holder, and an illumination device arranged on a second side of the sample holder, such that light is provided to the magnification device through the sample holder, wherein the first and second side are opposite sides of the sample holder.

A method for quality assessment of a sealing section of a package, wherein the package includes at least a robustness layer and a plastic layer. An inductor coil for induction welding of a packaging material having at least one layer of metal foil is disclosed. The inductor coil can be configured to induce an alternating current in the at least one layer of metal foil for inductive heating of the packaging material. In some embodiments, the inductor coil comprises a base layer material and a top layer material bonded to the base layer material to form an irreversible bonding interface comprising a mixture of the base layer material and the top layer material. An induction sealing device comprising at least one inductor coil and a method of manufacturing an inductor coil for induction welding of a packaging material is also disclosed.

A method for sealing a first packaging material laminate, comprised of at least one layer of magnetizable particles and a sealable layer, to a second packaging laminate involves facing the sealable layer towards the second laminate, providing an alternating magnetic field to the laminates in a sealing zone, thereby generating magnetic hysteresis losses in the laminate having the magnetizable particles, which losses create heat substantially melting the sealable layer in the sealing zone, and applying a sealing pressure to the first and second laminate to cause the first and second laminate to be pressed together in the sealing zone, thereby sealing the laminates to each other.

The invention relates to an ultrasound horn comprising a fixing section (), a sealing section () and a transfer section () extending therebetween, one or more elongate recesses () being formed at least in the transfer section (), and said recesses () extending in a direction (A) between the fixing section () and the sealing section (). Said recesses () have a rounding-off encompassing, along the rounding-off, at least a first portion () with a first radius of curvature, a second portion () with a second radius of curvature and a third portion () with a third radius of curvature. The invention also relates to a novel forming of the transfer section () and recesses () at the ends of the sealing section ().

Ultrasound horn

An apparatus and method for sealing a sealing area of a packaging container in which the sealing area has a predetermined exterior shape. The apparatus includes a generator, a horn and an anvil. The anvil has an abutting portion that conforms to the exterior shape of the sealing area of the packaging container. The plurality of slidable plates may be composed of a ferromagnetic material, a paramagnetic material or a ceramic material. The plurality of slidable plates are supported on an elastic sleeve that allows for the inward movement of the plates when the force exerted by the horn on the sealing area exceeds the elastic force of the sleeve thereby allowing the corresponding plurality of slidable plates to conform to the exterior shape of the sealing area of the packaging container. An electromagnet may be used to restrict the movement of the slidable plates subsequent to their conforming to the exterior shape of the sealing area.

Apparatus for sealing packaging containers

A rotation-symmetric ultrasound horn for producing a circular seal to effect liquid-tight joining together of, for example, packaging container parts. The ultrasound horn is connected to an ultrasound source which supplies the horn axially via a supply end. The horn displays an opposing, tubular working end with a circular work surface. The mean diameter of the tubular part varies along the axis of the horn so that the horn, in the region of the work surface, is of greater mean diameter and cross-sectional area than in a region located between the work surface and the supply end of the horn. As a result of this design and construction, the initially axial ultrasound waves are given a radial component of sufficient amplitude to achieve welding of thermoplastic material along the circular work surface of the horn.

An apparatus for ultrasonic sealing of thermoplastic materials includes a vibration generator of a so-called giant magnetostrictive powder composite (GMPC) which is anchored to a jaw at an anchorage point. The vibration generator is formed with a cross-sectional area which progressively reduces as seen from the anchorage point. A free end of the vibration generator has a narrow working surface. The vibration generator is surrounded by a coil for generating a magnetic field.
