A method to monitor an operating characteristic in a combustion engine: creating a monitoring matrix divided into a number of sections for storage of information, wherein each section is associated with specific intervals of engine speed &#x3c9; and torque requested from the engine T. When the engine is used during an operational time window with a pre-determined duration, measuring or estimating an operating characteristic and associating the characteristic with the monitoring matrix's respective section, associated with the current engine speed and the torque requested. For each section in the monitoring matrix, calculating at least one statistical parameter describing the operating characteristic associated with this section during the current operational time window; storing the statistical parameter(s) in the respective section. At the end of the operational time window, storing information in the monitoring matrix in an individual storage matrix associated with the operational time window, wherein the monitoring matrix is emptied of information.

Method for monitoring operational parameters in an internal combustion engine

The present invention relates to the control of fuel pressure in a common rail engine in connection with an automatic gearshift procedure. Upon receipt of a primary gearshift command, a fuel pressure in the common rail fuel system is decreased. This decrease is initiated during a time interval prior to reducing engine torque. A gear is released after the engine torque is lowered, thereby enabling a smooth gear release.

A method for controlling supply of fuel to a combustion engine, e.g. a self-igniting internal combustion engine in a vehicle, having a first group of cylinders and a second group of cylinders, the method comprising the steps of: determining if a demanded total fuel quantity to the combustion engine is below a first predetermined total fuel quantity; and, if the demanded total fuel quantity to the combustion engine is below the first predetermined total fuel quantity, increasing the fuel supply to the first group of cylinders with a value determined by the demanded total fuel quantity and decreasing the fuel supply to the second group of cylinders with substantially the same value. Method for controlling supply of fuel to a combustion engine

A gear position in an automotive gearbox is detected on the basis of measuring a value indicative of the speed of a rotating shaft between an engine and the gearbox, and a value indicative of the speed of an output shaft from the gearbox, and calculating a quotient of these two speeds. If for a predetermined period of time the quotient is between upper and lower limits about a quotient value pertaining to the respective gear position, it is decided that a gear position obtains. Through information about a selected split position of a split gear it is as possible gear position rule out all gear positions which do not correspond to the selected split position, thereby enabling said upper and lower limits to be raised and lowered respectively for the remaining gear positions which correspond to the selected split position.

Device and method for detection of a gear position in an automotive gearbox

In a multiple cylinder four-stroke engine with fuel injection, an interference oscillation is generated briefly on the flywheel on starting by varied fuel supply to different cylinders. After oscillation analysis of the resultant oscillation of the flywheel, phase positions of the superimposed interference oscillation and of the resultant oscillation are compared. If predetermined phase positions of the oscillations appear, the engine is considered to be operating in the correct cycle position, but otherwise a control unit is initiated to correct its cycle position so that the correct cycle position of the engine is obtained.
