Systems and methods are directed to configuring antenna systems. An antenna system may be coupled to a first communication unit and may be responsive to another communication unit. The first communication unit may alter its antenna system to accommodate various attributes of both units. The first communication unit may have a plurality of antennae which may be configured to be driven actively, deactivated completely, or tuned and driven in a parasitic mode. By configuring the antenna system, the range of the antenna system may be increased, the power to drive the antenna system may be decreased, and other various attributes of the communication system may be accommodated.

Examples herein disclose apparatus and systems for hybrid vector based polar modulator schemes that may use a series of polar modulators to create a system of vector modulators. The resulting polar response may be de-composed into the sum of the polar modulators. This approach allows accurate phase modulation in two such links without the need for high resolution AM part to cover the IQ plane of a QAM modulator.

Apparatus and methods for hybrid vector based polar modulator

In an aspect of the disclosure, a method, a computer-readable medium, and an apparatus are provided. The apparatus may receive an otw signal that is associated with low-path pass information and transmission data. Hybrid polar modulator

A method for performing near-field communication (NFC)-type operations in the far-field region using a repurposed antenna is described. The method includes determining whether to perform NFC-type operations in a near-field mode or a far-field mode. The method further includes performing NFC-type operations outside a near-field region using a repurposed antenna when in the far-field mode.

Systems and methods for far-field communication using a repurposed antenna

A method for inductively coupled communication is described. The method includes determining an operational mode for inductively coupled communication. The method also includes performing the operational mode by combining a transmit power amplifier (PA) output replica and a PA output copy at a signal combining block of a receiver. The PA output replica reflects effects of channel properties. The PA output copy is unaffected by the channel properties.

Systems and methods for multi-mode inductively couples communication

An example phase-locked loop (PLL) includes a digital filter, an oscillator, and a time-to-digital converter (TDC). The digital filter is configured to sample at a discrete time that is responsive to a reference clock signal received at the digital filter. The oscillator is coupled to the digital filter and configured to generate an output signal of the PLL. The TDC is coupled to the oscillator to determine a phase difference between the output signal and the reference clock signal. The TDC also provides a time signal to the digital filter that is based on the phase difference and is representative of an instantaneous rate of operation of the PLL. The digital filter is further configured to adjust a response characteristic of the digital filter according to the time signal.

A system includes an array of comparators configured to convert an analog input to a digital output, a switch configured to adjust output bits of the digital output, and a control logic; the control logic is configured to initialize the switch and a direct-current source coupled to the analog input; the control logic is configured to increase the direct-current source in incremental steps of a minimal voltage value corresponding to the least significant bit of the digital output; and the control input is also configured to cause the switch to adjust one or more output bits of the digital output based at least in part on a value of the output bit corresponding to the current incremental step.

Crossbar switch calibration system for facilitating analog-to-digital conversion monotonicity

In one embodiment, a circuit comprises a first pair of elements, a second pair of elements, a combiner, and a signal output. Each element in the first and second pair of elements comprises an amplitude-control input for receiving an amplitude-control bit, a phase-control input for receiving a phase-control bit, a signal input for receiving an input signal, a modulator for producing an output signal based on the amplitude-control bit, the phase-control bit, and the input signal, and an signal output for transmitting the output signal to the combiner. The combiner combines the two output signals from the first and second pair of elements to produce an output signal for the circuit to be transmitted by the signal output of the circuit.

Direct mm-wave m-ary quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) modulator operating in saturated power mode

In accordance with a particular embodiment of the present invention, an apparatus is offered that includes a configurable feedback low noise amplifier (LNA) connected to a common source connected input transistor to realize a specific value of an input impedance, the input impedance being controlled by transconductance, the overall gain being defined by a global current feedback network. In more specific embodiments, the LNA is used to provide a wide frequency band and a defined input impedance. In other embodiments, the LNA achieves a low noise parameter and low output distortion. Also, the LNA can use a ladder network of grounded switches and floating resistors in order to avoid floating switches in a feedback path. The LNA can increase parametric yield. The LNA can be used to control noise, gain, distortion, and input impedance independently.
